The DPS job is to kill or threaten to kill to cause pressure that forces control of the map to skew into your favor.
It seems like it’s less important sometimes but it really really isn’t, it’s just usually with less tools to do it. It’s the most straightforward, it’s just harder to notice when one DPS is dead than one support or tank is dead.
When a DPS dies what is measurable is pressure, but there isn’t a stat for that like healing numbers or you physically seeing yourself not die because you got healed. The game feels easier but there isn’t direct feedback telling you why. It isn’t that dps has less impact it’s that the impact they have is harder to contextualize and the human brain can struggle with connecting those while playing.
