The only Supports without mobility tools are Zenyatta and Ana. On top of that they all have either 225 or 250 hp, including some sort of damage reduction/self heal/disengage built into their kit. Maybe I’m the only one having this issue but Supports seem insanely hard to lock down for some reason, with the sole exception of Zenyatta. Ana has disengage with her Sleep, self healing with Grenade, as well as good damage, Lifeweaver has a ton of disengage, self healing, a bunch of health, and a dash for some reason, Moira has her fade and life suck, Lucio is Lucio, Mercy ping pongs around so damn much that everyone who isn’t at least Diamond+ skill level with Hitscan struggles to hit her, Bap has invul field and jump and can easily out DPS a DPS, Kiriko has invul and can teleport through walls, Juno has perma flying and a tiny hitbox, and I don’t know enough about Illari I have seen her like twice and she was on my team since coming back.
Supports were never this hard to lock down before except maybe Lucio but that’s his whole identity as a slippery speedy support. I just don’t really get how to lock them down, even if you have a backline harasser it’s hard as hell to kill Supports, again with the sole exception of Zenyatta.
Also queuing all roles in QP I have yet to get support after 2 days. Mostly tank with some DPS mixed in. So was it was to make more people play Support by making them essentially uncounterable by DPS which historically were the counters to Supports?
You win by killing the enemy team. Not healing your team to full and never dying since then on one wins. Surviability is an aid, but its passive and does not directly lead to team fights ending.
The reason why is because no one would play them if they weren’t.
i use to be of the mind that characters like Genji or Tracer or sombra if they manage to get these supports alone should just be an easy kill.
but then i realized that as a support that’s gonna happen a lot if you have a team that doesn’t peel. and it feels terrible playing as a character who’ll be target number one and not get help for that. what Sombra was doing pre patch was basically how supports felt like without help. and it sucks. so the devs obviously can’t just let a role become free food. they had 2 options:
let the supports run
or let the supports fight back
they chose to do both,
with some supports like Juno can run
while some supports like Brig can fight
or in the case of Moira she can do both but not much else
the only character where it might egregious is Kiriko cuz she can both fight and straight up TP out
While it’s true supports may have a lot of ways to disengage, it may be considered a small victory to force them to use an ability to protect themselves as opposed to helping their team.
Support is hard focused every fight. They got rid of the offtank role, and DPS players don’t have the gamesense to actually know to peel for supports, so they had to buff supports to be able to take care of themselves
Because the developers quickly saw that they’re the number one target to kill first. And nobody peels for them like good teammates, so they made them self sufficient Because no one wants to play a role where you’re constantly getting dog piled and no one helps you but expect you to be the backbone of the team
He has the lowest, or is tied with Illari for lowest, KDA of all of the supports at every rank and about middle of the pack for all heroes. That HP nerf on him was so unnecessary.
They have to be in OW2 because the loss of an off tank means a lot less peel for supports. Supports used to have a Zarya or Dva to peel for them. When OW2 launched supports were horrid until they were buffed appropriately
A supports job is to heal and stay alive. How on earth can they do the first thing if they can’t even manage to stay alive long enough to make it count? Do you think all supports are supposed to be immobile like Ana and Zen?
I did leave the frog out of this tbh, or I guess I didn’t specify that, that’s why I said “Lucio is Lucio” Because he’s how he should be, and yeah he and Zenyatta are the only supports I don’t have a problem with tbh.
It’s the nature of the role based system of games really.
Support keeps a team alive so they are the primary targets to kill, so they must be hard to kill in order to exist.
It’s like tank has the job of drawing all the attention so they need to stay strong to survive. It’s just the nature of class based combat.
Yeah but then what’s the point of DPS? It feels mostly like a DPS’s job is to just counter other DPS. Therefore making them pointless. This has been an issue in Overwatch for a loooooong time. That’s why GOATS was a thing, and supports weren’t even that hard to kill back then.
It’s nonsense to use kda as a metric. KDA is more affected by the design instead of the actual strength of the hero. A moria will always have high kda due to the nature of her weapon, regardless of the meta.
Also, from what I see, most lucio players are quite happy with compensation buffs.
The DPS job is to kill or threaten to kill to cause pressure that forces control of the map to skew into your favor.
It seems like it’s less important sometimes but it really really isn’t, it’s just usually with less tools to do it. It’s the most straightforward, it’s just harder to notice when one DPS is dead than one support or tank is dead.
When a DPS dies what is measurable is pressure, but there isn’t a stat for that like healing numbers or you physically seeing yourself not die because you got healed. The game feels easier but there isn’t direct feedback telling you why. It isn’t that dps has less impact it’s that the impact they have is harder to contextualize and the human brain can struggle with connecting those while playing.
Genuine question but ana in OW2 has only been nerfed with the sole exception of her nade getting a heal/damage buff because of the season 9 health increase. How come you are struggling against her now if you didn’t struggle against her before ?
