So Whinston knows sign language!?

This is so special to me, I know it’s dumb but I never see sign language shown in Videogames because honestly games like this isn’t the best for hard of hearing people. Although I’m not hard of hearing, I do know sign language, and learned it to talk to my friend.

What really is cute, it’s literally the first sentence I learned to talk to my friend. Hello, my name is J-a-c-K.

It’s even more touching to me that Whinston has his own name sign, meaning he not only knows ASL (or whatever form of sign language this universe has), but he regularly is able to communicate to others who also sign. As traditionally it’s other people in the deaf community who give you your name sign!

Also time for this super adorable piece of information:

Winston is super smart. His knowledge of other forms of communication is probably second only to C3-PO.

I think it’s a cool emote. It’s different.

As an interesting facet, real-world gorillas have learned sign language before (or at least many words from it), so Winston potentially could use it to communicate with “normal” members of his genus.

That’s really cute! Also would make a lot more sense lore-wise rather than slapping the sign language someone random. I appreciate it

Well while Gorilla learning to communicate with sign language is true I think this more has to do with miracle on 34th street. Given it’s part of the Winter Event. I can’t remember if it was the orginal black and white one or the remake but in one of them a deaf girl sat on Santa’s lap and he was able to fully talk to her in sign language.

One of the first 'miracles" he performed to prove his identity to the audience. I believe the old version had him speaking to a dutch girl but I might be wrong. I’ve seen them a million times over the years but they kind of blur together tbh.

Maybe, my only question would be why he has his own name sign then. What’s really special about a personal name sign is that it’s a special sign people use for you. You generally don’t make your own name sign, it’s given to you by people from the deaf community.

He probably learned it by talking to the other gorillas in the colony.
Well, that depends though, because we don’t know if the gorillas on the lunar colony were also able to speak like Winston. All we know is that Winston seemed to develop far better than the rest.

Winston is just channelling Amy

If I recall correctly, Winston’s name is a reference to how Danik (a hearing impaired LA Valiant fan) refers to Winston (from his ultimate). He also talked about how he enjoys OWL and demonstrated some of the other heroes (holding a sniper for Widow, Junkrat pulling the cord to his tire, etc).
