Legit question a friend asked when she picked up Mercy again (she was busy with IRL things and haven’t played her since 1.0). She tried and was getting to the point of switching to a different healer because no matter how many attempts she made she couldn’t pull off a rez.
Luckily the randos we were playing with made no big deal out of it, one even thanked her for attempting.
I told her that I’m actually told in Mystery Heroes to not even TRY rez unless they were behind a shield.
So her question again was “So, what’s the point of rezzing anymore?”
Just wanted to know if anyone else had these thoughts. I mean I like the chain healing/boosting Valk gives, and she did too. Just saddened that we really can’t use her whole kit without risking QoL.

To rez people, just not brainlessly, like before. get a shieldy friend

which is somehow hard since no one picks tanks (at least in QP)

Hard to do it when your sheildy friend is the one down. She tried to rez me as Rein.
And in MH hard to know IF/WHEN you will get a sheildy friend

At this point - Rez is mainly for if you are playing mystery heroes and there are too many supports on your team. You click the “suicide button” called “Resurrect” and voila - you resurrect as a new hero.

I got rezzed several times last night over a few games, seems to work just fine.

So then they were right as the “DO NOT REZ” when I am the only healer. Got it.

It is fine, just salty mains of before want to complain.
it’s not the central part of her anymore. It’s was unhealthy for the game and especially for any high level interest in the game

To get an ally back up just to die again, or to kill yourself trying to get them up.
Mercy may still be “viable”, but she lacks impact and is boring as hell.
Tell me, how is the only ultimate that could counter an instant damage DPS ult “unhealthy”?
Junkrat ult? Sorry, but no Support is stopping that. Dva Bomb? Maybe Brigitte can protect ONE person now, but that’s gonna be hard as he’ll.
It was an ULTIMATE that had to be BUILT UP just like OTHER ULTS.
If you didn’t want the enemy team Rezzed after an ult, you should have saved another Ultimate to DEAL with that rez.

To broadcast for 1.75s “Kill me! I can’t move!”
But seriously, in theory, you’ll want someone to shield/body block for you to get the resurrect off every time. In public games you’ll rarely get this level of communication and you’re better off resurrecting someone who died away from the action, or someone who just died like right when the match starts, or not even at all. Other than that, there is no real benefit to resurrecting in combat since most times you’ll die, leaving your team 4v6 and without a healer.
if you played widowmaker at all you would understand why. it might take a while but as soon as it happens you will understand everything anyone ever said about rez and why they hate it.
it’s best to not even rez anymore, even if your team member was on the point. Any rezzing you do is 2 second that you are not healing your team, and they die in the process. The dps mains cried that their skill hide and ult plays were being ruined, and “daddy J” dried their tears.

Maybe support is not for you . . .
I main Lucio and Junkrat, She mains D.Va and Sombra. We will flex and as I stated we both enjoy the chain heal and boost and the ability to get out of the way (hear that Junkrat ult, go Valk and get out of the way.)
We can play her alright but as I’ve said it just feels like we are now unable to use her entire kit since 9/10 we end up dying instead of helping out team
Same as before. To keep your tank/other healer/most useful DPS alive, in that order. Deciding to go for it depending on how dangerous it is.

When people ask this kind of question it’s pretty clear it’s not a real question and just trolling. I mean does anyone really not know what the point is of bringing someone back to life? What’s the point of shooting people too? I don’t get it.
Mercy is basically the OW version of Jesus where she dies for your sins (of being out of position or not on the objective).

Rezzing is incredibly useful for somebody who peeked into a choke at the wrong time; you can stand behind a wall and get them up, and they have a brief instance of invuln where they can leap out of the way once you get them back up.
It can also be useful if a sniper or random grenade killed someone out of position, as long as you aren’t standing in the sniper’s LOS or in the doom zone of grenade spam.
Rez in MH can actually be really, really useful, but you have to think about when and why you’re using it. If you have three Hanzos and you bring back one of them, that was probably a bad use of Rez. But if you have one main tank, and you can safely bring that hero back, definitely do it. If you have an off-healer/utility support who’s adding a lot of value, bring them back. Or if you have a DPS who has ult, etc. But, because it’s Mystery Heroes, if you don’t think you can safely get the person up, it might be worth it to hold back–main healers are suuuuper valuable in that mode, and if you die it could really hurt your team’s chance of winning.
Making lots of money off of insurance fraud!
I don’t know how things are in plat, but when Mercy had 5 man resurrect in Master+ it was an absolute nightmare.
And don’t even get me started on 2CP. It was the absolute worst.
It was an ultimate with little counterplay if the Mercy was smart enough. Thank god it got changed. (Not saying the current Mercy is good either, but at least it’s not as unfun as it was before.)
