I know Tracer and Genji has same Roles just Target Weak Charachters. But Soldier:76?
Generalist; jack of all trades, master of none
I pick Soldier 76 mostly for sustained fire, to help take down barriers or simply go rogue and flank the barriers using his Sprint and Biotic Field. I also pick him as a damage healer when the team comp needs both more damage and an extra healing source.
He is great at backline defense. While he can be played offensively, he seems best suited protecting.
I don’t think soldier is bad, especially after the ptr buff. Hanzo is just really OP having better abilities with shorter cooldowns and a much better primary fire at every single range and for every single job. Hanzo is just OP and better in every single way, but that isn’t soldier being particularly bad, that’s Hanzo being broken.
probably an unintentional pun
either way, good one
the master of the H button
He is a reliable hitscan ranged DPS. If you suck at widowmaker, at least you can assist with ranged damage and helix rockets. You are a bit closer, but with biotic field and helix rocket you might deal with a flanker upon you.
The community will tell you a jack of all trades but the true mains will tell you that he has lost his role after the evolution of Hanzo and the release of Brig.
What is Hitscan? What means?
Unless it Doomfist or Brigitte or McCree or Hanzo. And I wouldn’t exactly call it reliable when he has to shoot in increments of 5 with an incredibly short fall off that damage is healed in an instant.
He is good at Everything! But great at noting!
I call it reliable because some damage is better than no damage. there are plenty of players out there who are dreadful at heroes like McCree/Widow/Hanzo because they cannot aim.
Even some constant chip damage is better than no damage at all. If you are a bit better with sustain fire as well you can land headshots just fine and helix rocket and get some good damage in.
Plus, his fall off effect is better than McCrees. McCree has 22-45 meter which is 23m transition. S76 gets 30-55 which is an extra 2 meters and further distance before maximum fall off accrual.
I only play him to counter Pharah but he’s a solid dps: doesn’t die very much so he can do sustained damage to barriers/enemies. His rifle feels a little weak against Brigitte armored foes, though.
Soldier is a good carry hero because he is well-rounded and entirely self-sufficient. With above-average mobility, a fairly long range weapon (that’s getting its range buffed on the PTR) and the ability to burst through armor or finish off targets behind cover with rockets, he can pretty much go anywhere and shoot anything. With his offensive capabilities coupled with the ability to self-heal, he can get his job done without having to worry about whether or not his team is pulling their weight.
The only thing really keeping Soldier in check is barrier shields. He’s one of the best heroes to just sit in the back and deal damage to shields, but alone he’s still not going to get enough done against them. A patient Reinhardt or Orisa on the enemy team can make it seem nearly impossible to Soldier to score kills, even with his ultimate.
Keeping all that in mind, there are three specific scenarios when you should pick Soldier over other damage heroes:
- You are legitimately playing on another level compared to every other player in the current match. If this is the case, Soldier isn’t the only option, but he’s the most consistent option.
- The enemy team does not have either a Reinhardt or Orisa. Bonus points if your team has one. With no shields to keep him in check, Soldier can completely dominate a game by playing along the high ground overlooking the main path to the objective.
- Your team needs additional healing. If you’re running without a Mercy or Moira or with a solo healer, your team may need additional healing output. Soldier can provide that without sacrificing anything from the team’s damage output.
Just remember to use your rockets to break armor. So long as you can land your rockets consistently and can avoid close-range combat, Soldier is one of the most effective damage heroes at actually dealing damage. If you learn all his tricks (like deleting Tracer with rockets + melee), you can go very far as a Soldier one-trick since he fits in just about every team.
Hitscan bullets take no time to reach the enemy, whereas projectiles do (Pharah rockets, Dva missiles, etc).
There is actually a second part to that saying. Odd how so many people don’t know it.
“…Often more useful than a master of one”
He’s a great frontline and high ground damaging character who excels at mid-range, and can also provide minor additional healing to a team when both damage and heals are needed.
He can feel pretty lackluster in the current meta, but he himself is not really underpowered. When unimpeded, he’s a very strong damage dealer (enough that increasing his bullets’ damage by even one point will make him meta).
His biggest problem imo would actually be his ult. It provides good damage but can be easily avoided, and is one of the few damaging ults that doesn’t really combo with Grav, preventing him from synergizing with Zarya. And even during his ult, it’s easy for him to reduce his own value with it since he still needs to reload during it, and using his Sprint to reposition while using it will use up some of his ult’s time. If they ever were to buff him, imo it would have to be a minor adjustment to Tac Visor. Like an even faster reload or infinite ammo during it so he doesn’t have to waste as much of Visor’s time.
He’s the meaty dps.
He’s there to provide consistent damage output which makes him good against shields, armor and in general wearing down targets.
To this end, he has a safety net in his own healing ability which can help cover other teams mates or himself in tough fights like choke point pushes. He can also be used to help pick off Phara or punish targets that are out of position.
His ultimate is one of the most powerful in the game IMO since he can clean up a team with multiple kills quite easily. But it can be avoided too easily as well which reduces its power on some maps.
The problem is that people feel he is not a good pick at times due to McCree/Widow/Hanzo being preferred picks since they can all outright kill someone with fewer shots than him.
HIS ROLE IS NOT JACK OF ALL TRADES that is such a meme. He cannot flank at all against a team that know what they’re doing. He cannot anti-flank. Those are “trades”.
He is a sustain hitscan dps with a close-mid range burst projectile that also works unreliably at long range. Burst dps is a lot more effective the higher rank you are.
