Sure you could have your zen/Lucio hide and ult straight after but isn’t that exactly like the mercy play style everyone hated?
Or what about stunning them out of it? Let’s be honest this sort of thing is extremely rare and only happens if they’re unlucky or stupid (e.g use it right next to brig).
Essentially this ult has very little counterplay which renders everyone on the enemy team useless, I honestly think Nano blade has more counter play than this.
While EMP does lack counterplay, there’s something else to consider. To get any use out of it you need a lot of communication and cooperation from teammates. EMP can be the most powerful Ult in the game, or outright useless depending on your team
Well, the same was said about Mercy and mass resurrection. Didn’t stop them from nerfing the living life out of it.
It’s strange how inconsistent the developers are. EMP is very powerful if good coordination and teamplay, considered OK. Mass resurrection was very powerful if good coordination and teamplay, considered OP and removed.
Either way you lose. You could not prevent res from happening while also making it go away like you can with Sound Barrier. You either always kill her first no matter what or just kill everyone again. There is no other option.
Strategic team positioning… especially by the support who has defensive ult. Should not be compared to the mercy who could hide and undo. Having your team die is what should be prevented, which is what supportive ults and ow strategy are about, it should not be just a minor thing u can hide and undo.
U dont stand clustered if enemy has grav. Its the same with emp. Tho i agree maybe we should hope for an diameter nerf down the line.
That’s all well and good, and for the skillz crowd it’s probably enough; but you don’t just balance things around the idea that “not everyone” can do it.
You balance around the idea of what can be done; you don’t assume players aren’t going to be playing optimally, because the whole point of a competitive game is finding optimal strategies, whether players are actually pulling them off or not.
For the record I think EMP is fine, the real issue is heroes being so reliant on their abilities / abilities (particularly ultimates) being so ludicrously powerful.
Well yeah, but putting them in low health puts them at a disadvantage. I’ve just seen a lot of players just give up and die running away. That’s fine, but at least fight with your disadvantage, unless it’s an advantage to group up at spawn quicker.
Far from it. One tactic of mass resurrection was to draw out ultimate abilities. That required teamwork and coordination from your team.
And ironically Mercy was nerfed for hiding and using mass resurrection, but it’s perfectly fine that Sombra hides to use her extremely powerful ability. A said, quite inconsistent on what’s discouraging and what isn’t.
It is really strong, but I don’t think it would need any drastic changes to fix that.
As the ult currently stands, it seems like it casts immediately after you press Q. Maybe adding a slight delay so you hear sombra say more of “your gondola is useless!” before it actually casts would give people just that slight heads up they need to react.
Kind of like how you can hear Rein fully say “HAMMER…” and then when he says ‘down’ the ult actually occurs.
People have called dps staying away from the battle strategic for as long as I remember, which I guess is necessary with some ultimates. However, I do raise my eyebrows when people suggest Zen and especially Lucio should skulk around corners away from the fight to ult - I mean, Zen can to some extent still do his job, but Lucio is a close range support. If the Lucio has to be away extended periods of time in an attempt to prevent a wipe the enemies have basically removed 80% of his usefulness.
