So we dont own our games So why are the games so high

If I don’t own the game then that means your stuff is way over priced because it has no value what so ever… So if it has 0 value then how can you even charge a price for it? So game should be worth if it has a value of a resell, so the game is worth 0 and I give you money that has value? Something not adding up. How is this even legal. I just need some help. in why should we keep paying money for stuff that worth 0 I just don’t get it. Just seems like a scam.

You’d be surprised that in reality the same type of paradox exists for video games registered in your Steam / Epic Games / Battlenet account, you know? It’s an issue based on the fact that you don’t tend to own the games, you only have the license to use them, which they are two different concepts :flushed:. For example, if they steal your Steam account or deactivate it, have your games also been stolen? You have the right to “print” the copy of your Steam video game on a CD ROM because you purchased it, or are you making a pirated copy of software that you have access with your account?

Live services such as overwatch then have a further type of access properties, based on their very nature of continuously expanding and updating management. To understand this, I’ll ask you a question: the game is “yours”, you bought a product. but did you buy the maintenance service for it? and if they update it with even one bug, aren’t they technically infringing on your property? Or did you actually not “buy” a product but rather an access service, such as to a club (in this case, the overwatch servers)?

I advise you to look for information about it, I’m not joking :thinking:. it is very interesting and instructive, and leaves many reflections on the concept of ownership when talking about video games and accounts. and also to the generational difference that we have had over the decades in the concept of patching a single player product and live servicing of a multiplayer game;

Simple as that! It’s basics of economy.

You are basically paying for the use of their software/servers/infrastructure to enjoy an experience.

Like a ride or a themepark. Or even a cover charge at a club. You don’t own any of the stuff there but you have paid to use it and enjoy an experience.

This in and of itself isn’t bad but opens up a lot of possible abuse and potential shady practices.

Not everything you spend money on is going to have resale or investment value. Sometimes you spend money on something and then the experience is over and you go home with nothing other than memories.

I tend to see ftp mtx based games as you being the product.

I don’t regret that I…uh…bought Dante. Do I own him or the game? No. I just signed a mutual agreement saying that I can play the game for as long as there’s service; I don’t owe them anything but they don’t owe me.

I spend $$$ because I want to prolong an experience, in this case, have WF servers open for 11 more years.

I guess it’s a bit more nuanced than single player games…

At least here in the U.S., you’re allowed to make a copy of software you purchase for personal use. You just can’t distribute it. It’s why I have Game Boy games on my phone and I don’t fear retaliation from Nintendo.
