Most people I’ve seen defending paywalling heroes are saying they made it to tier 55. These people probably also wont read past the first sentence and are already typing “well I made it to tier 55 on week 2” as they have bought the premium pass which gives you an XP boost.
I did not buy the pass as to see how bad it would be to get to tier 55 in the 2 weeks before a hero hits comp. The first week of this game I put a min of 5 hours into it a day (more on some days). In the 2nd week I did a minimum of 3 hours. I completed EVERY daily, EVERY weekly and about 3/4 of the seasonal missions. I did mainly solo but played in a group occasionally alongside a mixture of comp, QP and arcade. By the time Kiriko hit competitive playing lets be honest, an unhealthy amount that no normal person should ever be expected to play I was 1 tier off of Kiriko.
This is not acceptable. If you have bought the pass, stop chiming in on whether or not the grind to tier 55 of the free tier is good enough because you are playing with a boost that those needing to get to tier 55 to get the hero are not playing with. Not only this, but those who bought the pass now have 2 weeks worth of playtime on a hero you haven’t even unlocked so once you do get them, you’d still be at a significant disadvantage for a couple of days. The amount you would play normally I can easily see you not having the hero 3-4 weeks minimum into a season which is un-acceptable.
Skins cost more than they do in other games. The skins being sold are ones that are from a 6 year old game, the BP doesn’t give you currency back to buy the next one and the currency you do get is a grind to get. The BP has like 4 decent things in it specifically for some heroes and mostly filler. The BP has 20 less tiers than basically every BP on the market, there is absolutely no way to earn skins realistically for free anymore and no, grinding for 9 months doesn’t count and not only this, you’ve now made the game blatantly P2W.
This monetisation sucks Blizzard and you should be ashamed. Do not tell me this is needed, COD is not this egregious and that is a game much more likely to be milked. Jeff may have had some questionable design decisions but atleast he cared about the players enough to fight for things.
I’m currently in tier 87 and I still think tier 55 is too high. I firmly believe heroes shouldn’t be monetized at all since they already monetize the cosmetics with ridiculous prices.
it took me 3 weeks to get to lvl 30, then decided to buy the BP on the 4th week and that brought me to lvl 54. So it took me “4 weeks” if I didnt buy the BP… I probably wouldnt have hit 55 until like week 5 or 6, maybe, literally at the end of the season.
also you have to take into consideration all the shills that will say, “do you really want people playing “X hero” I dont, I dont want anyone to play the new hero because they suck at the new hero and theyre throwing my games.” The biggest L takes ever… and it was made by one of the overwatch youtubers trying to stay on the good side so he can get a paid vacation to california and hangout and party with blizzard in the cosby suite.
I say around Lv 35 is good. it’s not too low to incentives buying bp, but low enough to get access to the characters when it is available in rank for the casual gamers.
I am level 73, atm. I also bought the BP after about 4 lvls and noticed I have zero progression ahead of me.
My opinion is that its either lvl 25, like everyone is stating, or just free. Maps and Heroes should not be behind any wall, unless it’s very easy to obtain.
By the time I got to lvl 25, I was pretty burnt on grinding. That 20% extra is a sneeze… I would only do the dailies and some of the weekly stuff for the xp. Queue’n up for All Rolls blows chunks though…
To me, it tells me Blizz has a lack of talent to come up with good ways to monetize the community and still keep them pretty happy with it.
TL;DR – Bought Pass → Verdict → To high, needs to be free or lvl 25!
They can do like in Paladins, monetize all heroes with fake currency, BUT give ways to player earn that coins/fake currency playing matches. And leave just Rare and Epic items to pay with Real money.
So people f2p can unlock heroes and some skins and free items from battlepass, while who wanna spent real money, will pay for legendary/epic skin and battlepass will receive many more content.
That doesn’t add up at all. You get a 20% bonus from matches. So instead of 1k xp from a game, it’s 1.2k. Would take like 50 matches for an extra bpass level for the person who bought it, compared to the one who didn’t.
At worst she would be in the 70s when you hit 80 with the same playtime.
There’s seriously no good reason on the players end why Heroes should be in the BP.
The game was rushed out in a highly incomplete state and what could have been solid on the presentation was a down grade in a lot of areas from Original Watch.
This is one reason consumers need to stop demanding for games to get released because they are impatient. I know the consumers don’t have the control, it’s about investors and higher ups. But there’s less incentive for them to push for half baked release when consumers aren’t prodding at them to pull the draw string too early.
I know, I’m deviating. It’s still Blizzard’s fault, but I’m emphasizing good things don’t come from pushing for early releases from these dev studios.
OW2 or whatever you’d like to call it would have benefited from releasing when the devs felt confident it was done. Even if that was another year and some months away. It’s a video game. We didn’t need it this year.
I’m enjoying my time with it because the core gameplay is great IMO. It’s the presentation that’s severely lacking.
Warzone’s battlepass walls off the guns for a new season at level 15 and level 31. Plus it gives you premium currency (like Fortnite) which you can save up to unlock future battlepasses without ever spending anything if you play for long enough.
Kiriko should be level 31 at the highest, and there should be some better rewards for f2ps as well.
You should play few hours in qp to get a grasp of new hero kit, but from that point, competetive is the best practice you can get. QP isn’t nearly as coordinated as rank and people goof around way too much to call it a good practice. You can warm up your aim there, but decision making will lack.
So yes, you can be ready to try yourself in comp, while still not having completed BP to tier 55. Especially since experience is heavily dependant on login in every day, and completing challenges, rather than playtime itself.
I hit level 55 on the free pass, solo queuing, after two weeks and two days. I didn’t find it too bad.
…But I still think hero unlocks shouldn’t be tied to the pass in any form whatsoever. If people want to opt in to a battle pass for cosmetics with no gameplay changing effects then I’m happy for them to do so, but don’t put game-changing stuff in the battle pass so that everyone else is at a handicap. Don’t lock out new heroes please.
