So, this was what Overwatch Classic was like…

I didn’t play the original overwatch, so I was curious about this mode, and…it’s…eh…

…Mercy without her GA techs & mobility is the most boring character ever. Even the mass rez that I finally got to experience felt very underwhelming. Your team dies and you just press Q to bring them back. You don’t have to think about it, there’s not much counter-play to it, it’s just…idk unrewarding.

I was excited to try OG support Sym and…well, I see why she got reworked. I’m still interested in support Sym as a concept, but definitely not like this.

6v6 was nice, but without the Role Queue and all the hero-stacking it just feels like utter chaos.

Idk, it was an…interesting experience. I think I’ll stick to the version of OW we have now though.

Some will enjoy it, others won’t. But it is definitely an unbalanced game. Different time periods in ow1 will be better. Like seasons 2-5 in ow1 were pretty darn great imo. But the actual launch patch, not so much. Ppl loved it back then since everyone was new, and didn’t know what they were doing. No one was complaining about matchmaking, or ppls hero picks etc.

Yeah. Only thing I prefer about Hanzo (my main during OW1 at that time) is the scatter arrow. Everything else OW2 and beyond. But Doomfist? OW1 all the way no matter what changes Tank Doomfist gets. Back when his name was his performance and not just a title.

IKR, she is actually balanced.

The no limits part is why I said I won’t play it til after they remove that part

There’s a reason why they removed it very early on in OW1

But even then I prob won’t sink much time into it

It’s less “balanced”, but there are far fewer hard counters. Feels like everyone can be dealt with on just about any hero.

Yup that’s why it got changed within the first few months, and why no limits is only for a couple of days, it is much better as just standard OQ, like we will see soon enough.

I have similar feelings toward OG Mercy. A simplier time for sure…

Havent played Symm yet but played againist her and its quite strange (in a good way!).

Mercy’s “tech” was actually a glitch that was then made into an official thing. But, was never intentional. And not only that, mastering Mercy’s movement options took skill. It wasn’t goofy like it is now.

I reckon you’d have a very different opinion of the final season of Overwatch 1. The game was highly refined by that point.

A thing to remember is we only had mercy, zen and lucio as the other supports at that time. HPS numbers were really low with mercy being the best “healer” Zen and lucio value came from their utility more so then their healing.

Due to that Sym was a decent support at the time. A instant 25 shield, with the ability to TP people from spawn, and good zone/area controll with her turrets. She was a utility support.

However with every support added after that, there was a emphasis more on healing and less on utility. Which is one of the reasons she was removed from the support category.

Sym was a fine support back then, but would be a terrible support in todays environment.

Well, this proves many pro mass rez Mercy players that they were right about Mass not being that broken in 2016. It became more of a problem when they removed the mobility penalty (+ giving invulnerability for 1 sec) while rezzing and Mercy players starting to hide and mass Rez the entire team, which came later on…

That being said, it’s not that much of a no-brainer as people might think. It took a lot of good positioning for your teammates to die close to each other and for the Mercy player to find a good hiding place, without getting killed by a flanker chasing them.

The only way to counter mass rez, other than that, was to play ult economy against Mercy players, for instance, wiping the entire enemy without ults, then using 2-3 ults after enemy Mercy mass rezzed them.

Edit : I think Mercy was considered a throw pick in the first Competitive season that I barely played. I started playing Competitive a lot in Season 2 up until 2018.

I wouldn’t play it forever over every other version of OW but it’s fun to play. I forgot how simple the game used to be with so many fewer abilities and a lot fewer highly mobile heroes.

Also crazy ult charge rates across the board.

OG Mercy was very problematic in terms of gameplay design. Focusing on mass rez was the reason she became my least played support. People often shouted at me I rez 2~3 players even though it is enough to carry the game
OG Sym is weird as F but the second version (flying pizza) was super wanky and fun. The combination of Tracer + Torb + Symm was mega annoying though. Not of fan of this.

Ironically this is the exact reason pre-RQ OW1 never burnt me out. It was super fun for flex players (always role-filling) to find the last piece of puzzle to make the team (borderline) functional. You can check my allmode playtime and see what I meant by this

Not a fan of the entire game after RQ but hopefully both modes are kept

well, yes but kind of no. I think most people remember it just after it got fixed a bit, during the time ana was first released as a new hero was around peak time to me as a veteran player.

To me that’s classic. This current version is basically the beta

This is OW launch day. And to be clear this is NOTHING like OW1.

Just the devs way of proving a point and pretending it’s “to give everyone a sense of how the game progressed for nostalgia reasons” which it totally isn’t.
