She has literally no downsides other then low ranks are “underperforming” meanwhile i have a railgun sized hole in my head everytime she ults in mid elo.
Why not give her some sort of weakness, like widow is a glass cannon with minimal mobility, hanzo is a projectile hero so he’s less consistent to use then widow even though he shoots log sized arrows.
So why not make sojurns railgun a projectile weapon (so she’s less consistent) or give her tracer health (to make her easier to assassinate when she uses her mobility)?
Characters who are capable of one shotting need a fundamental flaw built into their character otherwise they just dominate the game. I mean even pre-nerf hog atleast had the flaw of being a big target so he was easy to sleep or anti.
The weakness is that apparently below GM people do not have the mechanical skill to play her and she has a negative win rate. If recent numbers held she would seemingly have a negative win rate even in GM meaning that unless you are playing in top 500 games you are not dealing with problem Sojourns.
Now this is not to say Sojourn is not a problem because OW like every competitive game is balanced top down but is to say that if you are in mid ELO you are not losing because of balance, you are certainly not losing because of the balance of Sojourn. You are losing because you are not playing well enough.
That generally happens when large quantities of player’s rely on a character. Her closest counter part would be Jager from rainbow six who has been considered the strongest character of all time but only has something like a 40% win rate. Most characters with positive win rates regardless of the game have low pick rates because the higher a characters pick rate the harder it becomes to have a positive win rate.
If we were going off winrates for balancing Brig would be considered a stronger character then Sojurn. Not only that she’d be considered the strongest character in the game. Which is true in pretty no realities.
If you balanced off win rate alone, Genji should be receiving another nerf along side, torb and sym. Mei would be considered the most balanced dps and every dps should be brought up or down to her level.
Her railgun should be a shotgun like thing, so she’s forced to move in. Instead of a sniper shot.
Let her slide in for the railshotgun “one shot”, or use it and slide away to safety.
But making it a shotgun adds risk to it, rather than hiding in the back and getting one shots from across the map. If theres a risk-reward system to her railgun then that would naturally balance her out a bit more because it’d be easier to punish.
Been playing a few hours today and I’ve barely seen Sojourn in my games. Widow is in most of them and junk and hanzo are probably the next highest picked DPS. Sojourn is way down the list.
TBH I’d like to see Sojourn because all these games with widow, junk and/or hanzo are garbage. Playing support into those 1-shots and junk random spam is zero fun.
yeah, lets nerf every other dps, even some dps got nerfed harder than others, but lets slap on the wrist nerfs for sojourn. oh and better yet, lets also slap on some compensation buffs while we’re at it
Don’t worry Sojourn will be gutted soon and made unplayable because too many people don’t like dealing with basic interactions in this game.
Anytime they nerf her or other characters that are difficult to play, people like me can no longer play that hero under any circumstances, it becomes impossible unless we climb and get better. Some of us have no desire for that though, however, they should not balance the game around people like me. But also they should not just remove every “problematic issue” that comes up.
I don’t see her as much since Ball has become so strong, I see Cass and Soldier significantly more on the hitscan side of things, still some Widow, a lot less Ashe.
Sojourn’s general firepower, or basic fire power is 9x14, or 126 damage per second. Factoring reload, it’s closer to 91 damage per second. This is one of the lowest DPS in the game amongst the damage-role. Widowmaker herself does 130 damage per second (about 92 factoring reload) on her basic unscoped fire.
Sojourn generally can’t compete with the superior firepower of heroes like Tracer, Soldier, Cassidy, Reaper, Echo, Ashe, Bastion or Mei. To counteract this lower firepower, she’s given a little bit more maneuverability in the form of Power Slide, and her charged railgun. Sojourn players in the higher ranks dominate, because they have strong mechanical aiming skills. This is what tips the balance towards her.
Barriers, and many defensive cooldowns are anathema to her. Much like Soldier’s Tactical Visor, she has very little she can do to operate effectively against a strong defense and barriers.
She’s extremely team-reliant, or requiring her team to enable and provide openings for her to allow her to do things or pop-off (as it were). One the reasons, again, why she dominates in the higher ranks is that teamwork can be more ‘polished’ and responsive to her and her demands. Another reason why she wasn’t recently seeing tweaks is because they just buffed several Tanks that would have an adverse effect on her ability to perform. Notably Reinhardt and Wrecking Ball.
Sojourn struggles at longer ranges because of her wide-spread after 8-9 shots; requiring her to close the distance and embrace more risk in order to perform well. This argument has some counterpoints; she only really needs about 8 shots to land on the target and then a headshot to finish them; the other counterpoint to this is that this is actually really difficult to do for the average player. Without proper teamwork and enabling, she’ll struggle to make this happen regularly. Moreover, with attentive supports, this strategy of burst-fire is effectively nullified.
She has no sustained damage. She runs through her entire clip in 3 seconds; same time as Soldier. Damage per clip is 405 vs. 540 from Soldier; 455 via Widowmaker.
Easily avoidable with a long cooldown. Dynamite is more consistent.
Depends on your definition of “quickly”. Otherwise the burst damage is comparable to all others, doesn’t have a cooldown and is dependent on the performance of the player with basic fire and her alternative fire. Quite a bit different from Soldier, though that does seem to be the intention.
There are several heroes who have better.
She’s very aim-demanding and very unforgiving, otherwise. That said, I’m not sure if her problems are strictly isolated to GM anymore…
Could be playing well enough, but the rest of their team may not be. OW2 is still extremely team-dependent.
Partially true to some degree; but Blizzard already accounts for this.
You’re still forgetting the fact that Sojourn has to charge that shot first, and then spend it in 5 seconds or waste more ammo to get it charged up. Given her awful spread, she has to incur some risk to get it adequately charged up. Or risk spending more than 4 seconds dunking on barriers (if any) to charge it.
Widow and Hanzo are actually easier to use than Sojourn, and don’t require as much teamwork to enable.
Which is a weird thing, but Hanzo’s Dragonstrike is typically more team friendly - even if it doesn’t kill, it forces some “soft crowd control”. Widowmaker’s ultimate doesn’t do damage.
Keep dreaming. It won’t happen.
If I assembled a team of one-shot heroes like, old, classic Roadhog, Widowmaker, Hanzo, Zenyatta and Kiriko and spent all game bulls-eying the enemy team, this would not be “problematic?”
Buffs, buffs popularity and pick rate. Wait a few weeks and then see.
No, it wouldn’t because the vast majority of people can’t land the one shots for everything you described other than Roadhog. For this reason alone is why one shots as a concept shouldn’t just be taken out entirely. Most people won’t land them. Sometimes annoying things have to exist in games like this.
