it has close to a two handed weapon in chinese culture, as i don’t think they used much in terms of war hammers

He’s a big weapon guy. He needs an arsenal of weapons.

Hammers, axes, lance-y-things, trophy cups… Yeppers.

It looks more like a guandao to me, at least that is how it looked in the skin reveal. Haven’t gotten in game to check yet

Guan Dao. Or Guan “Sword/Knife/Edged Weapon”.

Named after Guan Yu, the general who popularized the weapon, who is the basis for Rein’s skin.

Looking at it, yep, that’s right, I had only ever seen a Naginata, and even then the only reason I’ve learned about them was the fact it’s a weapon for Impa in Hyrule Warriors

It looks to be a glaive; a rather standard polearm. Does it have magical attributes due to its ‘easternness’, much like are attributed to the katana vs the sabre?

no…its just the chinese term for the weapon, just how Katana is the japanese word for a long sword, since both the guandao, naginata and glaive are, in premise, the same weapon, blade on end of stick

Glaives are European in origin. Naginata are Japanese. Guando are Chinese, and Sovnya are Russian

yeah, but in practice and premise they are the same weapon, just designed in terms of customs, european bearing coats of arms and being rather simple or religiously ordained, asian once bearing rather simple blades but ornate staves

I expect it is an antiquated weapon made of primitive materials. However, one must account for non-ethnic mysticism. The katana is a curved slashing weapon made of pig iron. The KATANA is a a mystical artifact that can deflect bullets, cut through titanium and renders its wielder invincible. My query was as to whether the NAGINATA was the same.
