I wonder ho w many people here will legitimately say its the developers fault for marketing
LOL did the same thing a few years ago.
Little cartoon ads on YouTube all over the place.
They were good enough to get me to try the game (again). Unfortunately the actual game play drove me away (again).
EhhhhhhâŠ
I think they went so hard with effort and âtechniqueâ that they completely forgot to put any heart into it. Not as bad as, you know, what disney does to marvel costumes, but not much of overwatchâs aesthetic flows naturally (which is nothing compared to how stiff their writing is).
I got second hand embarrassment watching that.
Wonât mean anything when the player retention is so shocking. They needed to fix player retention, then get more players involved. All that will happen is new players will try it, find they need to grind 50 matches to get access to heroes then realise thereâs nothing actually rewarding about playing the game.
In this thread, people are mad that Overwatch created an ad.
Pokemon would say otherwise.
Iâve mainly talked about the overuse of rap back then but yeah, we have to give them that the original PokĂ©mon theme is legendary.
Gotcha.
Rap can be tricky to do well. When itâs good, itâs really good. And when itâs bad, you get Scuttlebutt.
From a marketing perspective, take notice of the heroes highlighted, which hints at the audience this ad is trying to sell the game to.
Most of the video highlights the female heroes, then secondary are the creatures and robots. You barely see Rein or Torb. Reaper for a split second. Most male heroes are completely absent until the roster photo at the end of the video.
No, this is not a political point or anything like that. Itâs analysis to look at where the business of gaming, from Blizz in particular, is looking to capture value from. It also tells you the direction of the game. So if youâre an old school gamer since Unreal Tournament or something, OW2 might continue in a direction you donât like. Thatâs the way it is.
yea you are probably right about that. maybe they showed the heroes who had the most $$sales$$
you know they have statistics for that. i wonder which hero leads in skin sales. my guess is kiriko
âoh no! they showed female heroes in a trailer/ad?! WOKE!!!â
yaâll are ridiculous lmao
And this is EXACTLY why I said âNo, this is not a political point or anything like that.â
Itâs called BUSINESS but here is someone who immediately took it negatively instead of understanding that Blizzard is in BUSINESS to make MONEY selling to PEOPLE.
Take a marketing class and try not to be so angry.
Iâm not the one over analyzing an ad lmao.
I think they plan a new launch hype with season 6 and coming out of early access. Basically restarting
Itâs an ADVERTISEMENT comprised of cutscenes, and these are intentionally created to reach one or many target audiences. Otherwise the ad would be a streamer playing the game talking about how cool it is. And if that was the case, the streamer would act as an influencer and that person themself would be intentionally selected to reach a target audience.
You just got caught being angry over an ad analysis. I bet you think the heroes are designed to make you happy.
yes? what is your point?
Itâs just an ad, Youâre over thinking it. Youâre all âthis ad doesnt cater to me, so this must mean the game is going in a direction not suited for blah blah blahâ.
Get over it dude, its just an ad.
I never said the ad doesnât cater to me. Thereâs lots of talk on the forums of the direction of the game, the direction of any evolving product is usually guided by the customers that generate revenue, and/or who the target audience is.
The ad has some interesting highlights that are easy to take note of. Looks like more for a younger, more diverse audience, and possibly audience that generally donât play this game. Like are they trying to capture players from Call of Duty or Roblox? Because those are two very different kinds of games.
Itâs an advertising discussion and you got angry with your thin skin. You need to get over it.
I saw your other post, in the troll thread. I get the type of person you are. I see right through you.
You seem upset that the game is trying to cater to other people. Younger, female, more inclusive, and that seems to bother you. Why?
