At many levels of play I see more time spent jumping than on the ground, hopping like rabbits or a pogo stick. People do it for tactics, habit, or too many energy drinks. Are we sure that’s good game design?
Not necessarily a tactical advantage in all situations, but it feels bad
Obvious possibilities are short cooldown on max jump height after the first one (or few) or stamina for jumping. Some heroes probably should have unlimited jump

Agree, genji needs 3 seconds for every jump he does.
Overwatch is based on team based shooters like tf2, team fortress is a mod of quake
Movement in these games are unrestricted and thats the charm of them.

Think he’s more talking about people bouncing around just to avoid taking damage, like a support in the back line who’s being attacked or mercy at all times.
I do get the same feeling, though. It looks absolutely silly.

Yeah I remember when people started hopping around in Halo 2.
That’s where the term bumper jumper came from.

Tbh I think it’s fine, it rewards people with good tracking aim. and for those who are bad at it, it gives value to the cone-based heroes like winstone, reaper, mei, etc.
I must be old if people think that jumping around in FPS games all the time isn’t normal.
And by that I mean strafe jumping, not the kind of jumping that makes you easier to hit.
Jumping against someone with good aim is a spawn ticket.
Jumping makes you an easier target, since you have less strafe control in the air and fall in a predictable arc. It’s a bad habit carried over from other games.
Spamming jump will mess up people with bad aim, but against anyone with even a little bit of skill, it just makes you easier to kill.

Jumping is generally a very bad move against competent players. It can be effective if you directly in the face of someone, but at range, you are an easy target.

Jumping is a vestigial habit borne from Quake 1. More specifically QuakeWorld which was the online multiplayer client for Quake 1. There was a “feature” to the physics where forward momentum combined with strafing properly and jumping would speed the player up tremendously. Dubbed Bunny Hopping. Some games have adopted bunny hoping as an actual developed feature for their games but it’s always a pale comparison to the Q1 BH.
It was an absolute blast to play QWTF as a soldier and BH around the map faster than a scout could run around the map. Broke the balance of the game but was still super fun none the less
its the people with their feet firmly planted to the ground a/d crouching, strafe matching or counterstrafing, corner peeking that u should be troubled with, not jump spammers. the jump spammers are easiest to hit - heavy movement accel, animation locked
Most people’s jumping isn’t really tactical at all, its a bunch of weird habits ive noticed people have
People jump when they’re walking because they like the way it feels.
They jump when they get kills because they’re excited. (watch for it, it’s really common)
People jump when they’re scared
They jump when they want to move faster
They jump when they start shooting as an autopilot habit
They jump whenever they hit q
It feels way worse to me in games where you are punished by jumping with some sort of stamina or an almost complete loss of momentum
This. Strafe jumping at point blank can be an effective tactic to minimize incoming damage and give mobility cooldowns a chance to come back online.
People tend yo get in the habit of it, and use it in less favorable situations.
