Matchmaker is so much fun it’s been putting me in gold 4 lobbies all week and it’s about to complete its obvious mission of shoving me to gold. Even though the diamond 4 games I got I mostly won, it still wants me in gold. Ok, so I’ve dropped from plat 2 last week, 3 this week, and finally plat 4 yesterday. So, matchmaker is sure I need to be on gold teams. Fine I’ll just try to carry even though soldier and sojourn are on the floor and refuse to use high ground. What’s this? I’m at 40+ kills and enemy is at 20 max kills? Surely I will win this, right? Wrong, because my dps were at less than 20 each.
So I lose another gold game because of my gold team, and matchmaker will take that as confirmation I belong in gold and keep shoving mes. It’s as if “match quality” is not being accounted for as a modifier for how much MMR you lose for a loss. If I get an awful match a full rank below me, the MMR system should take that into account and not be like “you lost a game we expected you to win so here’s some extra punishing SR losses”. Don’t punish solotanks extra for not being able to carry a team that doesn’t even get what highground is, it isn’t fair.
Well, I won’t comment on what the MM is doing to you, I mean my D3 games have been… something lately. I’ve reranked D3 3x in a row, which I don’t mind. Honestly I haven’t been playing that well myself.
However, I think you and I both know elim count isn’t exactly the best identifier of how the game is going. I’m sure you know that critical moments outweigh kill count. Seen teams and been on teams with less stats and have won many times. More about critical plays than stat saturation. So, while the MM might be testing you, (I mean, by the sounds of it you haven’t been winning so it makes sense you’d be going down?), it’s also possible you haven’t exactly been making the plays you need to when you need to. Those 40 elims might need to be at better times… not saying it’s strictly a you thing, I mean obviously you’re contributing but… put 2 and 2 together yknow.
They are GM players. A GM player can carry 4 golds. A plat/diamond soloqueue tank player is much more human, and there’s limits to what they can do when people are dying to bastions, pharahs, junkrat spam, sym and torb turrets.
Winning still won’t do much for you. I still get deranked going 5-3 (with at least 3 of those being winning stomps, and 1 of the losses being a leaver).
So even if you do carry, if it thinks you belong in gold, you’re going to gold.
Long loss streaks are quite normal and a big reason why I consider a strong mental to be the most important thing when it comes to climbing. It could be just one of those times you’re going to drop and then climb back up.
That said stats alone don’t really say if you’re actually doing the right things to win and it’s best to stop blaming your team for every loss. Even if they are potatoes you could always have done more especially when we’re talking about gold-diamond games.
There is also the possibility that your loss streak is deserved and just a correction on much of the sr boosting that occurred since the start of OW1. It’s not really possible to say without seeing how this plays out over 50-100 games.
And you’re right…the results of matches are not entirely in your hands even if you are better than the rest of the general lobby….but if you belong in higher lobbies you will climb….maybe not instantaneously….but climb you will….people have been doing it for years
The matchmaker does not have some sort of agenda against OP
I’ve dropped from gm3 to diamond 1 this season and I’m playing well, most heals, least deaths, I’m swapping to counter a lot, getting compliments on my life weaver most games, if I’m on Moira I’ll be out damaging/killing the dps while still having the most healing in the game. Nothing I do matters lol.
How is it supposed to know that the game was “awful”?
PBSR does kind of soak up some of that loss when you lose a game you should have won, but as far as I know Blizzard totally removed PBSR in OW2 so the game behaves fairly between metal ranks and master ranks.
Also, if you’re running the lobby as you claim, how are your DPS getting nothing done? Even the most potato players with glue-like reflexes can look like gods if they’re being hard carried by a tank two or three ranks above them.
I just lost 15 games out of 18 on an account that is almost a full rank below where I have belonged historically.
I started as P4 (I usually belong in Diamond), and is now on this massive loss streak where it does not matter what I do. Like AT ALL.
I easily diff most of my opponents if I catch them 1v1 (Im DPS), but since my team crumbles on first contact non-stop, even that is fairly rare.
If this is not some kind of toxic-hell (I am quite competitive and can be seen as toxic sometimes I guess), then I simply have no explanation to what is going on.
The only maps I ever lose on are control maps. ALL of them could have been wins if Blizzard would just REMOVE THE ROUNDS FOR THEM! I’m sick and tired of all these brainless throwers that stop trying after winning the first round because they forgot how to play or don’t care about winning. The very definition of time wasting bull. No really what were you thinking adding rounds to these maps for non competitive modes. The absolute worst maps in the entire game that could easily be fixed with one simple change of turning them all into 1-1 games from the start instead of constantly backfilling into 0-1 games.
I haven’t noticed this but I haven’t really paid attention to match rank as it’s pretty worthless. Now that I managed to derank with a winning record I tried to make the best of it, but am getting flankhogs that just stare at the payload in OT and don’t even try to do anything - so I’m done. I said S4 was the final shot I’m giving OW and I guess it failed. I’ve uninstalled. Good job Blizzard, I really really wanted to like the game but they just really want me to hate it for some reason. Good luck hope things turned around for you.
You’re playing D.Va, though? D.Va fires dual machine guns with infinite ammunition. You can tickle someone and if they die a few seconds later, you get credit for it.
So the real question is how many Solo Kills and Final Blows did you have?
