Just wanna know how you guys think about spawn camping. There’re SO MANY times, mostly on LiJiang Tower Control Center map, I’ve had enemy teams capture the point first, and then proceed to spawn camp.
Just now I had the same thing happened to my team. It’s not only 1-2 people, it’s the whole enemy team came out of the tower and spawn camped us. I immediately switched to Bastion, stayed in spawn and fired at them. Our widow did the same with me. They have Winston, Rein, Junkrat and Moira crowded at the entrance of the building, we couldn’t even go to the other side to enter the tower. It’s QP and after losing the first match like this I left the game.
I’ve asked people before “please kindly leave our spawn” and I’ve got answers like “why tho?” “it’s fun” “it’s a tactic”.
It really baffles me that they consider spawn camping as a “tactic”, to me it’s just downright unfair to the other team. Please let me know what you guys think about it.

If you commit to spawn camping, it can only work for so long because eventually someone will mess something up. However, Rialto has a nice Little spawn room the attackers will never get out of without Ultimates

It’s a tactic, albeit not entirely sportsman like. How overwatch plays, you have every advantage in spawn: invulnerability, switching, and range.
It’s super risky to play at someone’s spawn because they usually break your team really easily with no risk to the spawn team. After a couple picks, you can easily chase them down. You’ll have staggered them and gotten the point.

Completely valid tactic. It can backfire massively, but if it works it can give you free distance in escort maps and might win you the game. Of course it feels awful to get spawncamped and if that happens, complaining about it won’t change anything.

yes completely valid, check out the pro team “selfless” vs bk stars on hollywood on youtube they have been disbanded for a while now, but they were the team when it came to spawn camping.
Right infront of the spawn where the enemy has invincibility ? No.
Near their spawn where they can still be killed ? Risky ,but it can work.
Define “legitimate” please?
Whatever you can do is fair game. However spawn camping is often a losing proposition unless the spawn camping team is much better than the team they camp…

Being pushed into your spawn is just the natural conclusion of a good attack. Where else would you want to push the enemy team into than their spawn? Of course, it rarely happens because a team hardly lets that much ground go for free, but when it does, that’s the realistic punishment. Some maps are more likely to be taken to spawn doors than others, you’ll see this a lot with Lijang Control Center or Ilios Ruins, and that’s just a valid strategy.
Like it’s been mentioned, this tactic also has its risks. It means abandoning the objective in order to keep a gridlock on the enemy, but that enemy is also right next to a room that makes them invulnerable, heal up instantly, and can switch between heroes on the spot. You made the right counter decision to switch to Bastion and clear a path, but you’ll also need someone to follow up on your damage. Another counter strategy is to run Sombra and stealth your way past the enemy and onto the objective. While the team is focused on spawn camping, you can either secure a back cap, or at the very least, force the enemy to scramble backwards in order to stop it.

If you can’t push the enemy away with free cover, an impassable invisible wall, a source of infinite health, the ability to swap your comp at-will, and you literally spawn right there (while the enemy has to walk from the other side of the map if they die), then you deserve to be locked in spawn.

An interesting psychological strategy to counter spawncamping is to pick Sombra, get invisible, and go to the point.
The ticking noise of someone capturing the point can break their formation.
Also, in the meantime you can hack healthpacks.

Of course it is. What, can we only attack players that are on the objective? Spawn camping isn’t even very viable in the vast majority of cases; you have all the advantages when fighting from your spawn. The other team is only trying to win.
Sometimes as tracer I’ll follow the supports to spawn after I kill them and keep them out play for as long as possible but usually if the whole team spawn camps it never works well in the end for us. Kinda cheap too I guess.
Hey , as long as it works

Spawn camping an entire team is an advantage to the team getting camped as their spawn and instant heal is right there while the enemy team has to go all the way back from their spawn if killed.
If your team is getting spawn camped, it means you don’t have proper tanks because they’re all you need to break through without needing to use any finess or high skill play.
Tell you what, record your games and the next time it happens, post your video.
Most spawn points have multiple exits
If you are going through the same exit into someone you know is there, don’t and alert your team
Spawn camping is only really a cheap tactic if they can effectively kill you the instant you spawn into the world. Giving you absolutely no means to fight back.
If not, then it’s fair game.
sure but its just not going to work forever unless you can 1v6
It’s a ‘legit’ tactic
The only problems with it is that you’re essentially showing the enemy team your team is trying way too freaking much to get kills and win a Quick Play match. Oh yeah, and since your team is distracted, someone can easily backcap.
It’s a completely legit tactic. It’s also a high risk one.
Where it actually does best is having a Tracer spawn camp staggered enemies if theyare dumb enough to not wait for the rest of their team. That’s pretty often, amazingly. She can most heroes and has the mobility to return to the team/escape if needed. I’ve seen good Tracers keep an enemy staggered for almost two minutes before, which is an absolutely enormous advantage on the time clock.
