So is every hero in Overwatch getting partner?

This is a long theory but hear me out.

  • Sigma looks like Moira on drugs (both scientists [physics/biology] & crazy & immoral) and are both from Talon.

  • Genji and Hanzo are both from Shimada clan, and are both Japanese ninjas & they’re brothers.

  • McCree & Ashe are both American cowboy/girl once friends turned rivals.

  • Soldier & Reaper are both American secret agents with very extreme viewpoints about how OW should be run. Once friends turned enemies.

  • Tracer & Widow are very different individuals with both having serious problems (1 has time curse the other has no emotions), but have different attitudes in life [optimism vs pessimism].

  • Winston & Hammond are both from the moon and were both animals trying to do something in a human’s world, trying to prove themselves.

  • Brigitte & Rein are both paladins who work to protect others while sacrificing their safety. One is a mentor the other a squire.

  • Junkrat & Roadhog are both Australian weirdos who seeks chaos in everything. BFF’s.

  • Pharah & Ana are Egyptian fighters who fight for justice. Also mother and daughter.

  • Baptiste and Mauga (soon to be a hero) are both from islands with very different motifs in life, but are tied together cuz of circumstances.

I mean, the only ones left without partners are:

  • D.VA (Another MeKA?)
  • Bastion
  • Doomfist
  • Lucio
  • Orisa
  • Mei
  • Mercy (maybe Moira?)
  • Sombra
  • Symmetra (another Vishkar?)
  • Torbjorn (Maybe Brigitte?)
  • Zarya
  • Zenyatta

Since many of the existing heroes get a partner eventually, do you think the devs intend to partner the rest of the cast in the future?

Sombra and Baptiste could pretty much be a duo too. When Baptiste was in Talon, they were good friends, and to this day they keep in touch. Even at the very end of the latest story, Baptiste communicated with Sombra and asked her for some (unknown to us) favour.

Same with Lucio and Symmetra. Vishkar have a long and brutal story in Rio de Janeiro, and these two have some banters which suggest how much they despise each other. Lucio led some sort of a revolution against Symmetra’s superiors, so they have a strong, though negative, connection.

And there’s also Doomfist and Orisa. Orisa was built to prevent any further complications that Doomfist caused in Numbani, after all.

And yeah, I think some of those pairs can overlap. Like Torbjorn - Brigitte, and Brigitte - Reinhardt.

So… is this deliberate?
I mean, do you think they add these heroes to pair them up one way or the other?

If so, who would be the next missing link do you think?

Actually… you could argue Torb/Brigitte, Torb/Rein, and Torb/Bastion are “partners,” Lùcio and Symmetra are rivals, Zarya/Sombra are rivals, Zenyatta is Genji’s teacher, Widow could be Doomfist and Reaper’s “partner,” Orisa is also Doomfist’s rival, literally created to defend Numbani from him. But yeah D.Va and Mei still need “partners.” I guess Mercy you could pair with Genji too bc she saved his life.

Here are the candidates I can think of:

  • D.VA (any MeKA member: Casino/D.Mon/King/Overlord/Dae-Hyun)
  • Bastion (another omnic like, the Gwishin omnic)
  • Doomfist (that evil omnic looking dude from Storm Rising)
  • Lucio (Symmetra I guess)
  • Orisa (Doomfist or some other omnic made by Efi)
  • Mei (Liao? both are Chinese probably?)
  • Mercy (Moira or Genji)
  • Sombra (Baptiste)
  • Symmetra (Lucio or another Vishkar like Sanjay)
  • Torbjorn (Brig or Sven(?) or whatever)
  • Zarya (Sombra or another Russian fighter)
  • Zenyatta (Another omnic monk from the Nepali mountains like Mondatta)

Tada.

Orisa and bastion are featured in the null-sector.

I thought Lucio and DVA were partners (nonship wise) because music and gaming. Also, pink and green is a cute combo

I think this is a nice example of trying to find patterns where there aren’t any. Of course if you keep looking you’ll find connections everywhere to make duos, but you probably could do the same for trios and so on.

You gave a whole lot of example of duos, but there’s no consistency in the reasoning of these divisions. For example you make one duo (Sigma and Moira) because they have a similar visual theme, then another (Soldier and Reaper) because of the lore and even another (Tracer and Widow) because of their antagonistic relationship.

To answer yor question: impossible to know like this, because you can already find duos for the remaining ones if you put no restrictions on reasoning:

  • Dva and Lucio: both a public celebrity, might have had contact before in a professional setting
  • Bastion and Orisa: both robots with null-sector equivalents in lore
  • Doomfist and Moira: both leading figures in Talon
  • Lucio: see Dva
  • Orisa: see Bastion
  • Mei: probably the only you can’t really link to anyone, maybe with Winston as they’re both scientists with similar motivations (protect the world and all its inhabitants)
  • Mercy and Genji: hints at a romantic relationship or at least good friendship and Mercy saved Genji’s life
  • Sombra and Baptiste: good friends
  • Symmetra and Lucio: antagonistic roles in their own part of the story
  • Torbjorn and Brigitte: Family and both engineers
  • Zarya and Sombra: Antagonistic roles in the main story
  • Zenyatta and Genji: They lived together in Nepal for a long time and Zen helped Genji with his mental issues.

And there are many, many other combinations that you can make. If you really want to find out whether Blizzard deliberately makes duos among heroes, you should be looking more consistently at it, because in this way, it becomes a real chaos really quickly.
