Everytime i come back i quickly realize why i left, the tank being main bosses is extremely unfun gameplay and it killed ow for me. 6v6 mode is kinda fun but its missing role q.
How popular is 6v6? Is there still chance to fully go back to 6v6?

It was sooo fun before they added perks. Now it feels like there’s too much damage or something? I haven’t really put my finger on it yet, but it feels way worse now.
I think 30% of playtime is in 6v6, so yeah it’s popular.
From what the devs said about comp, 5v5 is played 3x more. When they gave numbers months ago with qp, it was pretty much the same. Roughly 3x more. It’s popular enough that they are keeping it for next season, as of now I can’t imagine they are considering making it the base mode. My guess is it replaces 5v5 open queue permanently.
“Competitive 6v6 Open Queue was the third most popular mode in Overwatch 2 during Season 15 according to time played…until it was usurped by the Totally Normalwatch April Fool’s mode. Googly eyes may reign supreme, but 6v6 modes are holding their own, as are standard 5v5 modes. On average, there’s a 3:1 ratio of players choosing Competitive 5v5 over Competitive 6v6, respectively, but the 6v6 population has remained steady.”
Tanks are pretty normal in 6v6 since they do not get their full blown passives. 6v6 open is very popular because it is how OW1 was originally designed before transitioning to OW2 5v5 as a tank role queue shortage bandaid.
And that’s not even counting the Mahvel playtime. Let us be real, 6v6 is so clearly the more popular format.
Why would anyone be counting a different game for 5v5 vs 6v6 in ow? That’s like saying league and dota are 5v5 and more popular than rivals, therefore 5v5 is the more popular format.
Because I am playing Mahvel over Overwatch whenever given the choice? Over half of the hero shooter playerbase prefers 6v6. That’s pretty clear. That was the ENTIRE point of this test. To see if they could actually get people back.
The amount of heroes in the game isn’t some ultimate deciding factor. Tons of people liked this ow1 6v6, not ow2 6v6 due to all the other changes in the game. Tons of people like rivals for many reasons.
And the topic was talking about ow 6v6 numbers. Not saying another game should be included in those.
Valorant is also a shooter and it’s 5v5. I agree with Cnflagration. You’re not making much of a point.
It’s 25% of Ranked playtime.
So no, not very popular.
That’s a tac shooter. No offense intended, but if you believe Valorant or League are closer to Overwatch than the Chinese rip off, you are quite literally not worth discussing anything with. You probably think the Earth is flat too.
That’s quite popular for something that 1. Isn’t the core gamemode, and 2. Something Blizzard put zero marketting in. I still run into people in 5v5 who haven’t even noticed 6v6 is in the game. Blizzard marketted Normalwatch way more than 6v6. A lot of people left OW due to 5v5 and they’re staying gone because they don’t even know 6v6 is currently in the game.
6v6 is only good for unranked. The comp mode is a joke. Impossible to make any plays and one bad teammate ruins the whole game. At least in 5v5 you can flank and try to dive but in 6v6 you instantly get looked at by all 6 people.
Don’t think they were ever arguing which game is more similar to ow. I’m sure we all agree rivals is more similar. But rivals is not ow. Being 6v6 over there isn’t related to current 5v5 vs 6v6 player numbers in overwatch, which the OP was asking about.
Despite what the devs have tried to hammer into their playerbase, a lot of people actually loved OW1.
Tanks are still strong and many of them have ‘‘one shot combos’’.
6v6 is so fetch
I wanna play 6v6, but it’s open queue trash. So I don’t.
Okay let’s disable 5v5 role queue, enable 6v6 role queue as the main mode, put 5v5 open queue as a side mode and then we can compare.
