So I'm legitimately curious

Should I just start one tricking at this point? For some reason every character I like is either really bad, or ends up becoming a nerf magnet at one point or another. The only exception to this for me has been Hammond.

No. You need one more. Preferably 3 heroes at least in your toolkit. It’s a good idea to pick heroes that do well when the other hero you mastered is hard countered.

Don’t one trick. Just… please don’t. Play Hammond, but have a DPS and Support you can play. One-tricking is all fine and dandy until you get into a scenario where the team needs you to flex, and you can’t. Then it’s just making the whole game unfun for everyone on your team

People who one trick tend to reach higher ranks.

Up to you though

I mean… You can, but the moment the other team picks Sombra, McCree, Brig, or Mei… You become almost useless as Wrecking Ball. It’s always good to know how to play 2 supports, 2 tanks, and 2 or 3 dps so you can switch around as needed.

Unless you one trick an off meta hero like Bastion. Then you’re not going to go far .

Yeah, true. Maybe.

I played with some t500 Torbs and Junkrats in comp before, they werent half bad though. Back when they were troll heroes that is.

I’d say get good at one of each of these:

  • Pharah counter dps
  • Heavy damage dealer / Ult teamwhiper dps
  • Reinhardt or Orisa
  • Offtank
  • Main healer
  • Off healer

At a bare minimum, Soldier, Reinhardt, and Lucio.

Totally off topic, but is that you, EMc73? :open_mouth:

One tricking is not a ban-able offense - Blizzard

Do what you want my man.

It is! I’m back playing Ashe on PTR. First time I’ve been interested in OW since Brig happened.

no… you only need to know how to play the counter of your coutners of ur your trick. One tricks will always go up in SR faster then a flex player. i was ā€œhard stuckā€ in low bronze because i would ā€˜flex’ for my team then last season i said scew you guys i’m one-tricking symmetra and i went up 700 SR. always prioritize playing what your good at… flex only when your personally forced to. not when ur team thinks you should.

Wonder if that’s why they did a high mechanical skill hero.

Because a lot of gamers were getting turned off by the low mechanical skill hero additions.

I can basically play all these except for pharah counter (I’ll probs play Ashe) but the thing is that everyone I play ends up getting nerfed to the ground
-Doomfist was trash for nine months, became good cause of the meta, had two of his counters buffed than received kit-wide nerfed and had two more counters buffed
-Roadhog had that whole stuff where he was bad and now that he got buffed, I give him two months tops before he gets nerfed to the ground again
-I play brig for healing and it’s obvious how that’s going
-Mercy is literally constantly changing
-Orisa is frustrating in comp because some characters make her painful to play

Seriously, considering how often I’m hit with nerfs, its seriously hard to feel motivated enough to play anyone other than Hammond. I do when it’s required of course, but it’s starting to feel a bit hopeless…

to OP:

one tricking is legal, but inadvisable for two reasons:

–another player selects your character before you can, and then what?

–false reports. People falsely report one trick players, and this can lead to an automated ban, despite the fact that you did nothing wrong

I just think it’s good to know all classes since there are times where if you don’t fill, your team throws. It happens far too often where you’ll get no healers or no tanks. I guess you don’t need to learn dps since there’s always at least two people who want to be dps.

Annnnnnd One Trick exploit.

Again.

Sigh…

Jeff did an interview about it. It seems like he considered the complaints about CC accurate, and that he thinks OW should be a shooter.

Meanwhile they’re buffing the likes of McCree, and nerfing Doom and Brig has had a ton of nerfs. Ashe is certainly more potent than any other hitscan right now too, so, yeah I think there’s a positive outlook for mid ranged gameplay coming. Short ranged will forever be ruined probably though.

Although ironically I think Ashe is also a lower skill Pharah counter than McCree.

Hmm, I think hitscan is hitscan. But shooting dynamite that you lobbed at her? THAT’S cool.
