And we have references to heroes of the storm in blizzard world, and heroes of the storm has playable overwatch characters in it… does that mean there is some variation or form of overwatch INSIDE the overwatch canon? What would that even be like?

Possibly, assuming that people really looked up to them as hero’s, they could’ve had merch and other stuff like shows based on them.

that adds a whole new level of meta in with the idea that maybe the pvp game that we play is just that version of the overwatch game in the overwatch universe but with minor adjustments.

That is a movie called “Hero of My Storm” not the game “Heroes of the Storm.” In universe, the title is a coincidence.
