So i played a few games of "Paladins"

So, as the title says, i played a few games of paladins… and MY GOD THE BALANCE IS AMAZING!!!

every hero appears viable in some sense, all the weapons feel good/fun to use, and nothing feels cheap when you die to it

and the projectiles? OMG they feel just as viable as the hitscans…

now… the game itself, not very interesting compared, the movement is a bit meh… the maps are horrible… and the lobbies seem sparce and filled out with AI

but blizzard could learn alot from the hero balance perspective of this game

i played most on Barrat… who is like a Torb/old orisa hybrid but he is in the “Tank” category

he has 2 turrets he can place, and either a shotgun, or a Slug gun… the slug gun is awesome, his ultimate is an area denial flame thrower turret, and his second ability is like a deployable rein shield that doesn’t move

now one of his “Loadouts” the turrets heal people who play around them, which i thought was a good feature, you could set up a front line that actually protects your team and deals damage/heals at the same time

How many games have you played so far? Paladins matches you with bots for your first few games.

I wouldn’t say Paladins is a well balanced game, but I did enjoy it when I played. I think playing it does bring some perspective on hero shooters in general and it is worthwhile for OW players to give it a solid run.

One thing I really liked was that snipers in that game didn’t 1-shot, but still felt powerful. I played quite a bit of Kinessa who is basically Widowmaker. But Io ended up being my favorite character to play who is similar to Illari.

I wonder why…

literal cylinder hitboxes in Paladins. You could aim at head height at outer shoulder width and still count as a hit. Even beyond that too.

i forget, i played for a good few hours, and i was in lobbies with real people (could tell by their names)

IDK… nothing felt… broken to me, everything felt “Impactful/usefull” if not polished, and some of it more effective than others…

but unlike OW where certain heros are just a “Nope wont work” ever… because there is always one or two heros that are just better in every situation

if thats what it takes to make projectiles viable vs hitscans, then thats what should be done

We had vastly different games then.

Certain heroes can easily 1v5, while others die when getting looked at.

If they did that the projectiles would be even more powerful than hitscans cos their damage is high cos they require more prediction in aim. For example, imagine Hanzo, Junkrat, Kiriko or Torb if everyone had cylinder hitboxes. OP

then damage numbers need nerfing/buffing dont they?

But projectiles are just as powerful as hitscan because of their damage compensation so no change required unless you reduce the size of the projectile and not the hitboxes of all heroes. Changing hitboxes would just make everything lower skill intensive and easier to hit.

aight so you’re just a “Overwatch is the besterist and don’t need no changes” blizzard fanboy… gotcha… i will disregard any input from you in the future

I’m I would rather have Valorant hitboxes (accurate as hell) than Cylinders (even easier than roblox hitboxes in shooters). So good aim actually matters.

then play CoD not hero shooters

Should be the other way actually. If you don’t want aim to matter in a shooter then you should play battleborn or MOBAs where damage numbers affect things more than aim. Someone actually revived battleborn so its there if u want.

Or… i want to play what overwatch was when it released, (and was designed to be) untill people like you ruined it with your “UHhh BUT MUH SKILL!!!” arguments

I wouldn’t say it’s amazing, I play with my friend every now and then and the characters are very overtuned and forgiving when it comes to damage and hitboxes. Balancing Paladins is really only to do with custom loadouts people use. It is a MOBA FPS and works more like HotS and LoL where you are actively evolving your loadout to adapt to your enemy.

Overwatch has no character loadouts when it comes to statistics for categorizing itself as a true FPS/MOBA and balancing comes easier when you only need to change how a hero works. Except that the devs don’t know how to balance so GG.

First Overwatch heroes: Reinhardt, Hanzo, Widowmaker, Reaper, McCree, Zarya, Pharah, Junkrat etc. All require some semblance of aim. Hitboxes haven’t changed since launch so its still the exact same as launch except damage numbers, role passives and more heroes.

Overwatch was designed to be a MOBA FPS (it was stated as such by the devs before it launched… its even built on the corpse of an MMO…

Overwatch should be more like paladins, and less like CoD

yes yes, go brown nose for blizzard elsewhere, we know your opinion and as you have nothing to add to this discussion, crawl back to your hole and fondle your battle pass little gollum

All I know is I got into Overwatch because it was the first shooter I saw as a 13yr old that wasn’t 0.5 second AR spray = death and it had abilties like fighting games I played at the time (genji) and MMO characters (rein). So cry all you want, if you want Overwatch to have Paladins hitboxes, it ain’t happening but you can satisfy yourself by enjoying Paladins too.

yes we get it, you love CoDverwatch… bye now

Yes that is what I said…and why I brought up the fact that balancing Ovewatch is far easier in terms of balancing a true MOBA/FPS hybrid like Paladins. Paladins has builds and character loadouts you can do, Overwatch only has a roster of heroes in which you can choose from.

Paladins balance is far from being amazing, I know OW MM is bad but Paladins is just far worse. Complete honesty. It is fun at times, but that’s only from how busted certain character builds are and the crazy hitboxes. Like I picked the game up with a friend and I was just dominating, hitting shots is extremely easy.
