So I was told to do the following:
-
Reset the Overwatch settings: Blizzard Support - Resetting In-Game Options
-
Do a clean driver install by running DDU: Display Driver Uninstaller Download version 18.0.6.0. Then install the latest driver update: Official Drivers | NVIDIA
-
Lower the graphics in Overwatch: Blizzard Support - Lowering In-Game Settings
-
Disable background programs and services: Blizzard Support - Closing Background Applications Test Overwatch with nothing else running.
-
Check for overheating: Blizzard Support - Checking for Overheating Components
-
Try a Scan/Repair on Overwatch: Blizzard Support - Repairing Battle.net Games
-
Run PC diagnostics:
Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files - Microsoft Support
Blizzard Support - Running Hard Drive Tests
Blizzard Support - Running Memory Tests -
Reset the video settings: Blizzard Support - Resetting Video Driver Settings
-
Double check your power settings: Blizzard Support - Configuring Power Management Settings
-
Check the Nvidia power settings:
•Right-click the desktop
•Click “Nvidia control panel”
•Select “Manage 3D Settings” from the option in the left-hand panel
•Select the game to change the graphics processor under “Select a program to customize”. If it’s not is not available, select the specific game from the drop down list.
•Select your “Prefer maximum performance” graphics card under “Power management”. -
Disable overclocking. To do that, right-click the desktop to get to NVIDIA Control Panel, go to Help, and enable “Debug Mode”. This will force the card back down to default clock speed. Sometimes lowering the speeds below the base clock speed can also help. To do that, you will need to use third party software such as MSI Afterburner or go into the BIOS settings. Unfortunately, we aren’t able to walk you through these steps.
-
Disable hardware acceleration:
- Click the blue logo on the top left of the Blizzard app
- Go to Settings
- Go to General
- Uncheck the box “Use browser hardware acceleration when possible”
- If this keeps happening, NVIDIA has a big write-up about TDRs here: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/389688/geforce-drivers/nvidia-statement-on-tdr-errors-display-driver-nvlddmkm-stopped-/.
If this persists, it’s likely to be a hardware issue, so contacting Nvidia directly or a local PC tech would be the next best step.
Now I have a few questions:
- by resetting the overwatch settings, how much of it will be reset? Just graphics settings or everything (including the character settings, etc.)?
- how will disabling hardware acceleration affect fps?
- when checking for overheating, what temps should I be looking for (in game, the display thing says around 61- 65)?
Thanks!
