So, I enabled chat after 3 years

And actually, save from very few individuals, nobody actually says anything in my server. Usually 3 people each match (me counting) go GG/HF before the match start and GG after the match has ended.

Now, the curious part about all this are the the toxic people. Every 3 matches someone will really snap and start being very nasty, but the fun part is that they will usually talk alone, nobody will say a thing. I had a Symmettra yesterday flame every single teammate during the entire 10 minutes of match, the guy was so triggered that we won the match and he kept flaming his own team, but best of all, he was severely ignored like a child throwing a temper tantrum.

My take on this is that, at least on my rank, at least on my server and at least on PC, people are already playing with text chat off, same way I was. It’s not as if people use it to coordinate in any way. In all the matches I played, nobody really said anything useful to the match. All in all, save from the toxic guys and that one tracer in my team that said “gg tracer diff” after the match ended (way to pat yourself in the back, pal), people were usually polite and reasonable. That’s not something I really experienced in OW before.

I only use chat to point out enemies that need doing something about. “Focus soldier please” enemy ults or something similar.

If anyone flames, i mute them so i’m not tempted to answer and get in trouble.

Yeah most people left chat a long time ago lol I bet it’s a wasteland! Pretty still not safe to go back to yet though lol.

I think most people have learned to just mute and report players like this, instead of trying to “defend” themselves. At least, I’d like to believe that by now, people have had enough suspensions and bans to correct their behavior.

At my rank plenty of people talk in game, but I make a point to chat with others. For the most part, people are pretty friendly.

As they say - “you got what you asked for”.

That is great news! What modes were u playing?

Ive noticed a certain “silence” as well in certain modes myself. Its kinda nice honestly.

played one warm-up match in 6v6 qp, and the rest of the night I played 6v6 comp

Yea, most people turn off chat because saying anything can net you a ban potentially since the entire system is automatic.

I’m sure that toxic Sym you mentioned will mind this out very quickly.

I feel like you just learned this because nobody actually talks like this in conversation, even intellectuals. Especially since you kept using it.

Fun though isn’t it?

Save from sounding pretentious

There is no time to congratulate teammates or blame the support anyway.
As soon as the Play of the Game is over, we’re ejected out of the lobby.

I miss the heated arguments from Overwatch 1 and the comments after seeing that Torbjörn POTG when he’s essentially dead in a garbage bin somewhere during the whole 12 seconds.

I made most of my OW2 friends thru voice chat, and some have been around since OW1’s early days.

Those were the daya!

Don’t see many people ask for this but I really wish they’d bring back the cards and post match voting. Miss the interactions, feels so impersonal now when potg ends and everyone’s just gone.

My Sistah Spice turned chat back on just to report people for talking trash. It is actually working. They are getting banned. I guess it is because those people always have something to say and piss off everyone. :grimacing:

i’m sorry, english is not my first lenguage and I try to express it the best I can. I didn’t really understood your comment.

I stopped using team voice chat a long time ago, but kept text chat on. Every once in a while there’s a game with people on both teams who are just being funny. A running conversation in chat of some silly nonsense that you can chuckle at. No insults, nothing offensive, just light hearted goofiness. Those are the best games.

You are doing fine. They just pointed out the rigidness of your word choises, and the fact that english is more relaxed when spoken. Unlike what is usually taught in schools.

As a fellow non native english speaker, keep learning. It will get easier with time and practice.
You will recognize the small differences between the “official english” and “commonly used” english in time.

ah, right. I tend to be rigid about my wording because I don’t have many opportunities of speaking it outside text since I graduated and this limits in the amount of expressions I know to convey certain thoughts. Will keep that in mind, though (I thank the OW forums for me finally learning how to spell though, btw)

This explains so much…

It’s a team game, so I don’t play with the text chat off. Ever. What I will do is block people for being toxic…that way I can still talk to the cool people.

Why would you switch on chat? That is the worst thing you can do and you think tracer diff is not toxic for the other tracer? You have given me another reason to never activate any! form of communication in this game
