So Hanzo CAN (mostly) protect his own critbox

This has been recorded today (2019-11-20).

Is this intentional or not?

I still think its BS that he can protect his own head though.

This is well known already.

Mercy is also capable of protecting her Crit Box with her arm during the Rez. animation. It is particularly useful if you spin a bunch with high sensitivity as well.

True, but I will have a harder time recording that with dummies.

It has been like that for awhile. That is actually one of the reasons I personally believe he wins the MU against Widow at all but the highest levels of play. His bow just arbitrarily blocks crits and he can giggle (have to censor it, for some reason) peek with a projectile that you have to respect which is hard when you are slowed by aiming, but once you jump out of the way, obviously you lose charge. It forces you to either react to his position faster than he can tap the other direction or trade if you want to commit anyways. Really obnoxious and he is actually the only hero I am scared of as Widow.

That and Sombra that focus you. But that is just because I am not decent enough to 180 quick charge her once I start getting shot because I guess I am half deaf and never hear the decloak that is supposedly really loud.

It just seems weird to me that he can oneshot enemies with a headshot and at the same time protect his own crithsots.

Yeah, that’s totally fair. /s

This is actually Mei’s icicles just being massive dude. Do this with McCree and you’ll see his hitbox is just fine and infact that part of the bowstring and quiver also count as the hitbox.

Edit: Another thing to note with Hanzo is when his arm is outstreched while charging the bow, it counts as a hitbox. This makes his hitbox quite large when you take him from the sides.

The arm blocking his head was supposedly fixed long ago, and I haven’t had problems hitting his head since. Unless it randomly reappeared in the most recent patch or something, this is probably just a side effect of Mei’s gigantic projectiles.

So he’s able to headshot you with the side of his arrows, but you can’t headshot him eye-to-eye?

Here’s a fun thing with hanzo.

When you draw the bow his head moves forward and down a little bit as his stance changes from standing to drawn bow. If you look down and to the right while drawing your bow you can drastically move his head hitbox instantly without having to move anything but your mouse. You can time this in a duel with another hanzo or a mei or basically anyone else who relies on headshots, only exposing yourself when you’re charging your bow.

That’s exactly what this is. End the Anti-Hanzo propaganda!

You might be right.
It may be limited to projectiles only.

Really doesn’t seem to happen very often though, I have to say. I have over 200 hours on Hanzo and rarley see these kind of things in the actual game.

It’s not just limited to projectiles. McCree is at a different angle than the mei. This has been a thing since, really forever. His arm protects his head hitbox when his bow is drawn.

edit:

I knew I remembered an old video of this.

and another.

Is this on live or PTR?

because if it’s live I now Understand a few of the bug clips I collected on widow.

Hanzo is so horribly designed…

This needs a nerf. His critbox shouldn’t be effectively that small, considering he’s a sniper and has no damage falloff.

It’s funny I’ve had people deny this tbh

Its intentional. It works same way for all heroes - you cant kill Ana or Widow by shooting at their gun lol

Some time ago I even recorded a highlight where Ana survived 250 damage headshot - turned out, arrow went through her rifle thus saving her.
I was like WTF how did she live.

It’s the arm doing a lot of the blocking…
