During the beta season for role queue. I thought that it was a great addition to the game. My games would be more coordinated and my team compositions would be more well structured. People could queue up for their role that they were most comfortable playing. Leading to better games overall.
Moving over to the current season. I did my placements for tank and support. Hit about mid-high Gold. Which wasn’t too far away from my previous seasons. So I was pretty comfortable with my placements. Lots of room for improvement to climb up the ranks. So far I’m enjoying role queue. Just like I hoped, my games were great. Getting queued with people who were experienced in their role from previous seasons. Winning game and losing some games here and there. Then it happened, I started losing game after game. Going down in my SR fast. I lost so many games that I got demoted to Silver. I thought that it was mostly due to my input error as a Support and Tank. I go into games make sure that I’m giving callouts when needed. Letting my team know when I was about to ult and who I was going to target. But I kept going down even further in SR. I’m at the point now in my SR. That every game I play whether it be Tank or Support, I lose. I can’t climb back up. I’m stuck on this slippery slope of losing SR every game. I love this game to death. But right now I feel like just walking away.
How do you guys feel about role queue? How has it affected you in competitive?
Yer, I don’t care anymore. I have stopped playing dps/supports and just go tank as the RQ times are about 2 mins.
Doesn’t matter if I have massive shield block/dam/elims as tank, sr is still a crapshow, this game needs to be made into team sr. Then people will start playing as a team, people wont as solo playstyle is rewarded more.
i just tank, as in OCE the dps q times are more than 10 mins, and i DPS as tank. It ruins matches, but i don’t care, it’s fun. I can’t play doom or mcree or soldier anymore, so i pick a random tank and pretend
Absolutely terrible. If Blizzard had any brains they’d revert it. But no the poor 1 year invested into it wasted! Invested into ruining the game. It was great on PTR and I talked nice about it like a lot of others, but now it’s just terrible.
I am going to uninstall while role que is active. Tired of having to wait 5-10 minutes to play damage. The 2-2-2 is boring. When I was playing before my comp broke it was nice being able to switch roles mid game or run 3 dmg characters for example. Sometimes if I was rank but we were stuck at a choke point I would switch to bastion, burn through the shields running 3 dmg chars then switch back when able. Now I just have to hope everyone plays their roles real well without the flexibility
that’s the downside to the way the game is working, also ONE made a video about how terrible the game rankments place you as well. The dude got on a fresh account and lost 5 placement games and placed high gold…then went to win 5 games straight and placed low bronze…
IDK what’s even up with the MMR system that blizzard has in play.
For me, it’s the same as it’s been the last 17 seasons, but with a couple minor changes.
no more 5 dps with myself as either solo tank (no heals) or solo support (no tank to heal).
no more ‘4 sniper’ nonsense.
no more seeing the mewling in chat about ‘can we get a 2nd tank/heal’
And that’s about it. Same amount of leavers. Same being paired with people that refuse to ever retreat. Same rank shaming. Same death threats. Same complaining I’m not in VC to hear both, as well as the incessant cursing. Same no teamwork from my teammates. Same watching said teammates make the same mistakes over and over. Same throwers. Same trolls. Same limpwrist punishments. Same playing well statistically, but I’m paired with those that do not. Same coming up empty for a duo partner or a group, for weeks on end.
Virtually the same game, just a minor new spin.
Which is A-Ok. I’m moving on next month to a new Hyper-PC along with a new FPS.
Its good change for game but blizzard failed with one thing:
You will gain no benefit for picking all 3 roles, trying to help create more games. You can be a good guy picking all roles 100x and you still will probably get 100x tank role. Then you will go to dps role and still wait 8 minutes.
I think they actualy need to force everyone to search for all roles somehow. If they wont do that, I had no idea how to fix queue times.
Overall I think it’s a positive thing. There are some downsides to it, but things are way better than they were before. Now it would be amazing if they actually put out balance updates like they said they would. The current PTR is a start, but it should have come sooner.
Truthfully, it’s given me the best opportunity to stay in Bronze, my favorite rank.
It would be sad if I cared about my SR, because DPS is my highest SR, and I would have to wait 10 minutes for a game.
As I have typically done before Role que though, I play tank. Nobody much likes tanks, it’s always about forcing someone else to play them, and frankly it seems most people are just bored by them.
I’m not surprised, the whole concept of a tank is to deal out little damage, and take the bullets. You’re a big hit point sponge, not as much action and you don’t get to save people like support does. I’m in a minority of people who just likes big guys in video games so that’s why I like tanks.
But it’s a terrible role if you did want to raise your SR. Nobody listens much at all to tank players in game, even though you’ll hear at least one OWL interview where the tank player is relied upon to do call outs, and the team works with tanks.
Overwatch is not an esport for us players, however, it’s not a thing we make a living off of. So, I’m not surprised at all that most people want to play what they want. Role queu lets them do it. No bribe of boxes or credits will change that ever, only making tanks (and support) much more fun to play for most players. I’m not really different from other players, though, in that I’m playing the role I want…the role that keeps me as low a rank as I can get while following all the rules of the game.
The solution is as simple as fixing the root problem of imbalance of queues. Too many people queue for DPS. Not enough people queue for tank.
Personally I would like to see a queue currency system that gives you currency for playing the lowest queue and costs currency to play the highest. This type of system necessitates balance. But there are other solutions as well, all which involve the fundamental aspect of requiring people to “fill” the lowest queue sometimes.
It’s been interesting to see a boost in the tank/support streamers as the DPS ones have sort of faded out a bit to chase money (viewers) in other games.
The main issue just seems to be queue times and I’m not sure removing decay from GM was a good move. Seems like a lot of accounts are just playing and parking in top 500. Odds are moving over to only playing alts, not sure that should be encouraged so much.
Now that OWL is in the off season I’m expecting some much faster balance changes to the game with a focus on 222. Then we see how this whole 222 thing will really work out moving forward. Right now we are still playing a mostly 3-3 balanced game, in a 222 system.
I just hope blizzards slow motion moves on patches etc didn’t do massive damage to the player base over all.
