PVP tho, or just PVE? I really love PVP Hero Shooter games that are objective based, but NOT diffuse bombs zzzzzzzzz and NOT Battle Royale, I hate “looting”.
OW is perfect but could be so much better. I’m just not a fan of how OW rewards low skill mechanics that take 1 hour of practice to master as much as they do high skill mechanics that take 1000 hours of practice to master.
I wanted to play battleborne but the tutorial server was down when I tried. So… I had to watch that long unskippable “welcome to the game” video, you know the REALLY REALLY long one. Just to have it not connect to the tutorial.
After 3 attempts, I just gave up. Literally, buggy servers and an unskippable video killed it for me.
I would just like to play it so I could see for myself what it was like.
It sucks that it died. Who knows what would have happened if they stuck to their guns, it isn’t like Blizzard made consistently good choices after that.
I’ve only played Resident Evil Outbreak File #2, but man…oh man…
It was something special. I don’t say that because of nostalgia but you have to understand, at the time if you were poor, playing games online was a difficult task and I didn’t own a nice PC so I had to play games online through my PS2 so RE Outbreak was something out of its world for me. Imagine the classic Resident Evil tank gameplay, but with extra bells and whistles. It was the first Resident Evil game you could move and shoot in for example. The AI bots were terrible, but the online gameplay was a fun experience.
Every session felt different, but the session that stood out to me was when I got lost from my team and I had to fight off these zombies. I got bit, but I managed to take down some. I cried for help and my team finished them off, but it was too late…I was infected. See, RE Outbreak has a feature where if you tap the select button the character will comment on their current situation. My character begged for death, but my teammates couldn’t go through with it so they left me alone. I became a zombie. After a bit of time as a zombie, you’ll drop dead.
I love the stages, I liked the characters, I loved that each character had a class, and I’d go as far as to say this is horror multiplayer done right. No multiplayer game has ever given me an experience this one did. Honorable mention for Metal Gear Solid Online 1
Edit: Adding onto my opening statement. I didn’t even think playing video games online through the PS2 was even possible at the time lol
lets be fair now, we all know theirs a ham sandwich as part of the projects sign on bonus.
Dam a multiplayer game, that actually created organic narratives as part of the game play. Now that is something special.
For shooters ya, 99% of us can’t afford or need to use a screen that is in anything but a 16:9/10 format.
So just giving a handfull of people a larger perspective on what’s going on around them is indeed an unfair advantage to most players.
For games that are PVE focused, multiplayer or not. Then at that point it’s just a UI hurdle to make sure thigs are still readable. So theirs still a time investment, but not a bad one by anymeans.
