They absolutely can crash your servers. Have seen many awfully convenient server crashes, usually on last round when our team starts winning against cheaters or when cheaters get called out and flamed in chat.
Seems more like your pc had a brain fart.
This error happens if the app can’t get respond from the PC on time.
I was getting that error for a while. I thought it was an OW patch, but turned out I had been playing around with overclocking and when I rebooted it used my last overclock settings. Once I removed the overclocking the error went away.
That’s not how firewall works.
The “should not be possible” claim is heavily incorrect.
Dude more than once. I love it when our team claps back hard at the cheaters, punishing them hard for bad positioning even though they have auto detect psychic lazerbeams. Them booof, they “pull the plug” its not often but 100% has happened to me too
Happened to me before. Was on Mercy and game crashed right when start timer went off. I found the timing too much of a coincidence and never have issues with my laptop.
Impossible? no. But not likely, either.
Just like the other day, I was outside running around barefoot in my buddy’s yard. I started feeling this sharp pain every so often in the front of my foot.
I was barefoot, so I swore up and down I stepped on something, but there were no marks, swelling, or visible ‘points of entry’ for anything.
Turns out I have a bone spur in my foot, and by happenstance, just found out about it when I was running around barefoot.
Yeah, I donno.
I had a game a week ago where we won and just as it said “Victory” and started to show the first second of the POG, it crashed with a server error.
I went to check recent games to see if I got credit for the win and it’s like the game didn’t exist. Couldn’t see the recent players from that game, couldn’t pull up the stats or the VOD from that game. It just vanished.
Though I lean to it being more likely that it was a legitimate and rare crash, I can’t help that the timing of it was convenient. Like as if someone on the losing team was somehow able to crash the server so that they didn’t take the loss.
I know, that this was possible on a private server game years ago and I know people claim this to be a thing in Overwatch.
And I know this happend to me at least twice, after someone called out a hacker in lobby.
Short answer is no, unless you gave him your IP. Don’t listen to the people in this thread that literally have no idea what they are talking about. Don’t blame hackers every time you lag out plz k thx bye
Weird thing is after I that game I used a vpn cause a while back someone told me to, and my games where fine… its why im so confused on the matter.
If you join voice chat in this game anyone can see your IP using 3rd party software.
You can get ddosed on consoles but that is pretty much it. It is not a pc issue.
I’m not suprised that a hacker found an private exploit on OW2 to crash other players. Seeing the strangest hack in older blizzard games, makes me not suprised anymore that such things can exist.
Doubt its a cheat, its just some bug in the game or the OW servers are suffering due to some issue.
Its also possible the latest version of their setup is taxing out more than usual, but the servers weren’t upscaled to handle it.
Or they downscaled servers as cost cutting?
Game has been having issues ever since this season release.
100% co-incidence.
Look, the game isn’t P2P
Whats p2p?
its where they game has no server of its own, 1 person in the team becomes the host of the game and everyone connects to it.
This is NOT the case in Overwatch.
So, when a match is found all users connect to an overwatch server.
None of you interact with each other directly
You >> Server >> server syncs the data to the rest and vice versa.
Only the information goes around.
In case of a so-called “DDOS attack”, if this actually happens it will affect the entire region not just 2 people in the game.
So don’t worry about it.
Some facts to know given the setup architecture
- Your IP is not leaking around to another end user
- Its not possible to DDOS your machine
- It is possible to “exploit” in game bugs tho, like seasons ago there was a bug with mercy in parasio map will cause frames to drop for everyone to 1 frame per second, cause the map to be disabled and worked on
- It’s possible to DDOS a server, but the impact would be so widespread that the game will notify you or a notice will be posted on Blizzard battle net and so on
The console version apparently has a loophole that gives you the ip of the other person but as far as i know that is not the case on PC.
That should not happen, again
A PC player can queue in QP with console player
Does this imply this can “change the logic behind how it works”?
No.
The setup is User >> Server >> Server syncs data across
This is global, unless you have evidence to provide for the console version.
Based on the setup architecture, the IP leak should not happen.
It could be specific to how consoles handle the game and since cheats on consoles are harder to make, it is very possible that some less important stuff is handled on the p2p side.
Again, NO.
If it did, then PC and Console players wont be able to queue together.
Regardless how it goes - I assure you, there is no p2p happening here, otherwise cheaters would be having a field day with things.
Anything else aside, your IP and you getting ddos isn’t something this game can cause, regardless you are on PC or Console.
Been getting the same type of issues, thought it was just me and my crappy PC. But ive noticed its only some games. For games on end, i wont have any issues and the game is running fine. Then my sound will cut out, my screen will start freezing and I lose control of my character. Often when im doing really well.
Always wonder if someone is hacking in game, and its causing extra load on my pc for some reason. It also happened a couple rare times, when a bunch of people leave, i mean like 7 or 8 (so both teams), then a bunch of people come in at once and pick characters. But the character selection stutter isnt nearly as long as when it happens randomly in fights when nothing is happening but me shooting.
