So about using Kb/Mouse software macros

I’m going to assume Blizzard’s anti-cheat detection software won’t pick these up for obvious reasons. What do we do about people who might be using them? I saw someone who was crouching every time they would fire their weapon. To me it seems like they were be using a mouse macro to crouch every time they click their LMB.

I’m going to assume this is creating as it’s using 3rd party software to automate something within the game. I’ve also heard loooong ago people using KB macros to auto rotate their character 180. How do we go about combating such things let alone try to prove it?

what? or you can just easily press crouch when you shoot, what advantage does that give, it would make you predictable if anything, movement spam only works when its unpredictable.

most keyboard macro software only lets you do one action/keypress at a time which is just the same as pressing the buttons yourself.
the only problem with macros is when they let you do multiple keypresses at once to abuse animation cancel combos.

not illegal, software comes with your mouse, i have razer one , you can also press shift or whatever button you want to crouch , you dont have to use assigned button for things, i use right click to jump in Quake for example…
it’s real life pay for advantage, same as using high refresh rate monitor etc

I suspect that person just plays a lot of counterstrike. I used to do this for years in every shooter I played even though it was rarely beneficial. And in OW, it’s definitely not beneficial so I don’t think he would be doing this on purpose.

That said, the standard blizzard sets is one button press, one action. So any macro software that allows you to do more than one thing is considered illegal and if you suspect someone of using an illegal program it should be reported.

There’s a catch-all clause for just about everything. In fact I think it’s common for companies to follow the “one key for one input” rule.

So if I press Shift to crouch, that’s fine and dandy. Pressing shift to crouch and move at the same time, not so much.

i get it, but if i set a macro for my left click to shoot and than crouch on left click release, that means i didnt press a key twice, just once

That left click is one input, but has two inputs tied to it. That is still illegal

if its illegal blizzard can’t see it because a bunch of people use it. i wonder if theres a rule for tornament plays, do players carry their own mouses? with profiles in them

I’m assuming they don’t bother looking unless it’s been reported.

Oh, I think eSports follows the same rules. It’s the same game. No reason to have a separate EULA just for eSports. But I don’t play eSports so :man_shrugging:

Macros are considered cheating and if you suspect a player of them, report them or send an email to hacks@blizzard.com with any video evidence you have.

I don’t use macros and am aware of Blizzard’s formal stance, but honestly I don’t care, largely because I come from games where it is relatively legal for organized play. Automatic recoil compensation sure maybe I’d report it if I see it, but otherwise I don’t see the game improving if blizzard takes action. This is the same blizzard that was entirely unaware that the overwhelming majority of old high tier Lucio gameplay either required macros, jump on scroll wheel, or breaking your spacebar regularly. They only found out because they unintentionally broke it during a patch.

you could probably easily do this in razer synapse or G hub, they have macro support and you can bind multiple keys to a single button press even in timed sequences.

Pretty sure the rules state that if you are caught using those you get the hammer.

Yeah I know. My point is that Blizzard can’t ban the software because it’s needed for all keyboard and mouse hardware and it’s very hard if not impossible to prove if people are using them. Although they could give a minor advantage in the game if any at all though.

Players have been banned from tournaments for using macros built into their hardware. Not sure if Blizzard specifically has done it but they should if it is being abused like this.

When it comes to Macros, Blizzard is able to tell when inputs are macro’d (sorry I won’t get into details about that).
