So about the people who ask for reporting battletag

So when you report someone’s battle tag how does the name change works? do you rename yourself to whatever you want, will you not be allowed to change to the same thing without numbers will you get banned while also having to change your name? answers please :v

Doesn’t your name just get changed to, “Player” or something? You are also probably banned from changing your name for a few months, sometimes permanently.

You become “player”.

It is one of the reasons why we get people called player coming to the forums, and they tend to be pretty toxic, before getting banned from here as well.

You get names like SneakyTurtle or RobotWizard if you don’t enter a name when you create an account.

You used to get one free name change with an account, I’m not sure if that is still a thing, but you can change an account name for a small amount.

Of course, when overwatch is on sale, it is just better to buy a new account.

you can’t change your name alone though?

LOL Yeah there are A TON of generic names that are put on the game.

It took me a while to figure out the auto-naming. I was wondering why I suddenly saw so many people named DeadlyKitten (among other Kittens) when they started doing that.

I haven’t used an auto-generated name since my first Xbox Live account when I was a kid. As BluntRaincloud, I was too young to know the slang implication of my own username, but other players soon made me well aware of it.

so basically the bland generic 2 word names ive seen like silentstorm or something like that is the result of being reported for a bad battletag?

No, the name “Player” is the result.

The name “silentstorm” is the result of not putting a name in to begin with.

Yes, except for me though, i chose this name.

lul the nickname generator for blizzard is just like kahoot. first word is a quality, second one is an animal, and everyone hates it (I was most likely the reason my science teacher turned it on at one point. I often used “YEET666” as my name lol)

i did this once for one my alt accounts. just went on custom lobbies and asked people to report my tag. did it for a few hours and next day my name was changed to ‘Player’ and got a free name change available again.

That’s a good idea actually… cheesy, but good

Wait, so is it better to report people on Bnet rather than through the game, then? Is that even possible to do? I don’t know that I understand this topic.
But this DOES explain why players with similar-ish names or that are just named “player” have a certain attitude.

Auto naming is a bad thing and come back often for a nick.
I used it when it was not mandatory before DIII and I didn’t care about that, thanks to OverWatch for giving us a free change or wait a few years for a paid Battle tag change.

then theres those people who had to wait over a decade to change their playstation network tags.
