It’s pretty good if you know how to use it, you’re supposed to use it to get into position before the enemy gets to the point and wait there to drop on them

The next live patch should include the PTR shadow step “fix” that will make it go on cooldown if interrupted. Talk about improvement.

On the current ptr patch their making it consistant with other abilities where if youre booped while using it it goes on cd

So many wrong things in this thread…

  1. How is Shadow Step supposed to be a side ability in Reaper’s kit? It makes no sense, every ability in the game has its purpose and is supposed to be vital to the hero’s effectiveness, If Shadow Step should just be brushed off as a side ability that you use every 2 minutes, then that’s bad game design;

  2. Not only is Shadow Step’s sound effect very loud, but Reaper also scream “HEY, I’M HERE” during the teleport, as a big red marker appears from the ground. Anyone who is paying any remote attention to the game and to the Reaper player will not of his coming from a mile away;

  3. Reaper is not a tank buster when he is countered by armour and every Tank hero bar Reinhardt as some ways of dealing with him, let alone the fact that Brigitte, a Tank/Support hybrid destroys him, and there are better tank busters like Hanzo and Tracer.

That’s all well and good, but what else can you do with it? Can it be used to reposition in a team-fight realistically? Can you escape with it? Even as a pure positioning tool can you really even call it good at that job with its long cast time and terrible targeting system?

Compatible abilities are much more flexible in use, Shadow Step is beyond niche and has been widely considered the worst ability in Overwatch by a wide margin since the beginning of the game.

Why is it so hard to admit that Shadow Step is bad when the majority of the community thinks that anyway? Just let go and admit it, instead of making a fool of yourself by praising it as a very good ability.

Why am I not surprised that it is the Tank/Brigitte main who are defending Shadow Step and claiming that Reaper is fine?

Okay, I admit you make fair points (I don’t play reaper myself.) Maybe the solution isnt to mess with shadow step but to make him more effective against armor. Would make him a good counter to brigette and she could use a hard counter other than just “group up against her” (but lets not start a whole brigette debate). Another post on her suggested he become an armour buster, and I can get behind that.

Its very interesting that people who say X hero is fine either using that hero because he/she is op as fck or they dont play the hero at all. In your case its the latter.
