They want to make this game enjoyable right? They want balance right? They want one character to not be overpowering and not force the enemy team to completely change there playstyle right?
Then why is Widow in this game?
Name the enjoyment in getting sniped over getting to actually fight your opponent.
Tell me how its fair that a character can kill most the roster without having to be near them or at any risk of being killed by them most of the time.
Tell me how it’s not oppressive to never be able to play on over half the map because one character can single handedly make it a too risky to fight in the open.
They nerf one shot combos like Hogs hook, they make one shot moves that literally turn yourself into the projectile like Reins charge and Doom Fist punch, yet they have a character whose entire kit is about one shotting people from safety. Completely destroying any concept of risk reward by having all the reward with little to no risk. You often see Widows miss plenty of shots before actually hitting the target that was praying they could get to cover, but there’s absolutely no punishment for missing beyond having to charge up another shot before shooting again or maybe having to find a new spot.
Snipers have no place in Overwatch and I challenge you to change my mind.

They have been since the beginning, so it IS part of Overwatch.
It’s not like they’re going to take them out of the game, so what are you wanting?

How many buffs do you propose to give Widow to make her viable while removing her 1-shot killing?

I know how it feels to get frustrated by being headshot constantly. That’s why when you know they have a sniper, you should be careful of sightlines. If they can’t see or hit you, then they basically can’t contribute anything at all, which is their weakness.
Because landing the Zen volley on some poor unsuspecting spider lady is enjoyable in it’s own right.

TBH it’s pretty clear imo that Widow is a poorly designed, unoriginal hero (in terms of kit) that was just included because “it’s a shooter so we need a sniper lul”. That being said, she’s too integral to the meta and the gameplay, at least at the moment, to remove. Widow is necessary because counters to Brigitte are extremely necessary, and without her kit that relies on instant kills, the pace of teamfights would slow down immensely. So at the moment, she’s kind of a necessary evil. I’d be all for her being at least changed to do more consistent damage at the price of burst damage once this crazy meta dies down though.
Also, people who say “well just hide out of Widow’s sightlines or behind a barrier”… that’s kind of the point of the argument I think. It’s not enjoyable to constantly have to hide in fear that you’ll get oneshot by someone that most heroes have little to no way of actually damaging. Feels very much more like CS:GO than the fun, fast-paced, ability-reliant, and teamwork-reliant game OW usually is, at least to me.

Thank you for being the only one so far to actually get the point of what I’m saying

Sniping mechanics are balanced by the level of skill necessary to be good at it and the severe limitations they suffer at close-range.
If you find it annoying to be constantly one-shot by her, then counter her. I don’t really care if you don’t find playing against her fun or interesting. Other’s do. And she’s a part of the game. Sack up and deal with it.

I’m glad people are finally realising the problem with widow.
She has great escape options, no damage fall off so can one shot 70% of the roster and 2 shot the rest. Her ultimate is litterly a hack in all fps games and Ian granted to her whole team. Basically you just stop playing for 15 seconds and check your phone while you wait for it end. FUN AND INTERACTIVE BTW.
Her counters are sub par at best against her. Winson and Dva can be 2 shot and have very limited options for chasing a widow as their movement isn’t almost exactly the same cooldown as grapple and leaves then vubrable.
Widow is basically the best counter to widow.
Getting one shot from a mile away isn’t fun. Being 3 up in a fight to just lose to somebody clicking 3 times isn’t fun.
In a game like overwatch where mobility and map control are so important, a hero that removes these core principles is just busted.
My pet hate is when a widow drops a venom mine at her feet at the start of any duel. The ability Ian intended to be used to detect flankers and give the widow of warning. Not to remove almost 50% of a squishy hp where they can just be body shot or burnt down with the smug and killed.
Widow has the most impact out of any hero when dedicated practice is used. A mccree or solider with 200 hours will have nowhere near as much impact as a widow with the same time

Almost everybody understood you loud and clear. It’s just at this point nobody cares that the same topic has been created for the 29th time. Furthermore, people understand you, just not necessarily share your opinion. That does not make them “idiots incapable of actually having a discussion” as you so elegantly put it.
You find dying to a sniper is unfun, cheap, unengaging, unfair, etc. which is understandable, but there are no actions necessary from the devs or the community to cater to you. I find it very satisfying, engaging, commendable for skill, and fair. We don’t agree, but I don’t have the obligation to change your mind, and vice versa. It is what it is, take it or leave it.
Is Widow your typical FPS sniper? More or less yes. The generic sniper has been there for as long as the genre existed, and hopefully will continue to do so. OW being unique from other FPS only means that you have way more methods of countering snipers, directly or indirectly, than most other FPS games. This brings us back to our point, leave it be, it belongs.

What streamer complained about Widow recently that caused all these threads to pop up?

Sounds like someone has had their limit of head shots. LOL
Snipers or a variation of sniping has been a part of just about every FPS shooter ever made. If you hear “Sniper, don’t get caught”, do just that. Find cover.
I’ve thought she was a bad inclusion since Beta.
Other people are catching on and because others are starting to see her issues as well I figured there is no better time to state my opinion.

Do you remember when Jeff said that they’ll possibly retire some heroes?

Only on lore not for gameplay of course.

I said this numerous times, I’m ok with having one sniper(I exclude ana of the sniper category because she’s a supp and she’s closer to the point in most cases) but not two in my team.
Can the one we keep be Hanzo? At least he’s interesting to fight and takes skills beyond looking at the enemy from a high place
Widowmaker’s design doesn’t fit Overwatch though. Yes, other FPS’s have snipers but that’s because they are a traditional shooter with much larger non-linear maps that aren’t focused around the enemy team being distracted by a “payload”. Widowmaker has a strict advantage over other snipers in other shooters because of these elements, not to mention her ultimate is literally wallhacking and the only other game(s) to do that were Star Wars Battlefront EA where you had a small area AOE that blipped your radar where enemies were (still no wallhacking) and Call of Duty BO3 where you had a hero who’s ultimate was “wallhacking” but it also revealed to the enemy where you were so it was a fair trade.
Secondly, Widowmaker doesn’t have to account for bullet drop and wind direction like some other FPS’s or if you really want to be nitpicky, just bulletdrop on its own. She essentially shoots a laserbeam, not a sniper round which travels nigh infinite distance and up until the latest patch did not have damage falloff.
Lastly, her mobility is still insane. Any sniper in any fps would kill to have a “get out of death-free” card even if it’s now a 10 second cooldown. The ability alone to go nearly anywhere on the map or escape a flanker in a blink is pretty nuts and snipers getting flanked is supposed to be their downfall since they excel at long range combat but here, she can escape without worrying about getting caught from behind.

I think Widow fits perfectly in OW. I see absolutely no problems.

Because what you consider fun and enjoyable is not necessarily fun or enjoyable for others.
I like Widow and her playstyle a lot. This is not a causal game.
