Snipers are “balanced” in OW1 due to the existence of 2 tanks to protect your flimsy teammates. In OW2, there is only one tank and only 2 of the tanks are barrier tanks (not counting Winston). The only problem here is that the only people that could reasonably balance the snipers properly are the sniper players… but the sniper players don’t want to get nerfed, obviously, so they won’t say anything about it.
OW2 is a more brawl-focused game than OW1 is, and being one-shotted (Widowmaker, Hanzo, Sojourn) is a horrible mechanic when there is nobody to protect you.
All of the dive tanks can still reasonably pressure a Widow and still do their tanking duties, Orisa can still pressure Widow from afar especially now she has crit immunity back, Sigma still provides good Widow cover and can fight her if she’s close enough.
As long as your team wants to counter the Widow, then your team can. The problem is that people instead choose not to account for the Widow, play the same way they do for most everything and get popped for it, and then claim Widow OP even though your team is the one making mistakes and slipping up.
Fun supports do not equal OWL views, so don’t see that one happening.
Seriously, snipers may get some adjustment eventually, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. There’s a lot to do to get this misnamed expansion pack off the ground, and sniper balance will be pretty low on the list.
I to do this day argue that this idea that things don’t belong in OW (Resurrect, CC, bouncing arrows, Brigitte, turrets, etc.) was the moment when OW stopped being OW. OW was peak OW when EVERYTHING was on the table and it was all ok to be there and they were trying their best to include everything.
This full on reversal of removing things is seriously making the game boring and homogeneous, believe me when I say snipers are my most hated class in this game, but I will fight to the death to keep them in because OW needs to do a full 180 and start adding things back in, not removing more and more.
Snipers don’t belong, but I have found Sojourn to feel significantly less like a sniper than I initially expected. Her one shot feels the most fair of the three imo
That’s an oxymoron if I’ve ever heard one. Being killed instantly without having input to defend, counter, or react is the antithesis of well designed counter play and strategic thought.
There are many non “typical” FPS games. Of all kinds that are not military tactical shooters. From Sci-fi to more fantasy based, etc. They are all still FPS games and they all feature snipers of some kind.
Widow is actually a handicapped sniper. She is weak sauce compared to snipers from other FPS games. Dont base your views on TF2 snipers only.
Widow can not quick scope. Other snipers can.
Other snipers can 1 shot with a body shot.
She has to charge up her shots, a lot of other snipers from other games dont have to do this.
She has a weak secondary. Other snipers have hard hitting hand guns or smg’s that are not trash.
Her movement ability has a long cooldown. Other snipers from games like UT, Tribes, Battlefield, Planetside, Titanfall, Apex, etc, have transloacators, grappling hooks, wall running, jet packs, tactical slides/rolls/lunges, all on shorter or no cooldowns.
Other sniper can carry C4, spawn beacons, radar gadgets, land mines, surveillance drones, etc.
Other snipers dont have to worry about barriers, high sustain healing, anti-death abilities, heroes flying across the map hunting them down.
Other games dont have heroes with 600+ HP pools along with armor.
Other FPS games have movement acceleration making it easier to hit their targets.
Even if “some” have bullet drop, at most ranges, the bullet still hits almost instant unless you are super far away and its basically just aim a bit above the head. Nothing difficult for FPS vets. And again is easier based on the games having movement acceleration.
And so on. Im sure I’m forgetting other things.
Like I said, Widow is a handicapped sniper with many flaws so FPS noobs in OW wont rage as much. But they still do lol.
You have it completely backward. Getting your head blown off is usually the result of brainless w+M1 onto the point because you got forced onto it by losing the long term strategic game.
If they got rid of drops, I wonder how the views would go? I leave OWL and Contenders running on in the background for drops. I don’t actually watch it.
A not-so-typical fps doesnt mean it cant have typical fps elements. In fact OW has all the typical fps elements, and then some.
OW2 was advertised to double down on fps elements to elevate the gunplay experience. Sounds like OW is leaning more and more towards a typical fps. They prob will even introduce quite a few more 1 shot mechanics in the future.
