To everyone who can’t comprehend how smurfing exists, or is a rampant problem in bronze/silver - because: “They will gain much more SR if they are good and they will go up to their intended rank quickly.” Let me… let you in on a little trade secret.

There you go. There you have it. All a smurf has to do is buy a brand new account, and play like they’re half brain dead. Freeze people but don’t finish them off. Purposefully die but make it ‘look’ like you were trying. Play with bad positioning. Tank your accuracy on purpose by hitting walls and the ground. Throw your shots (But get a few kills to really be a team player.
Boom! You’re a GM in bronze
Now what? Well, you can play really well until about 1900! Then you want to start playing like a bronze again. Hoo boy… you SHOULD be winning these games and you aren’t - so, you’re going to take MASSIVE SR hits at this rank. You’re going to start losing 40-50 SR a game until you’re back in bronze.
Now: ROFLSTOMP those bronze newbs again until 1900 and rinse repeat.

EDIT: Now add in the fact most silver and bronze players are SO used to constantly losing they don’t bother to report anyone because they’re already waiting for 5+ minutes a game only to get faced off against a team full of smurfs. So the smurfs never get reported. Even when they are reported, it’s not being handled.

To be fair, there are smurf in the lower tiers. I even seen players I know from a higher tiers lol
I find it hard to believe gm would smurf in bronze/silver, even if they intentionally deranking, it would be really hard to play like you have a blindfold on.
One example of gm trying to throw his placement match is fitzy, he literally has to look up the sky to shoot nowhere, but somehow placed in silver.
I’ve gotten a lot of Silver players in my games because matchmaking in SA is terrible at night.
Almost every single one of them deserved to be in Silver, if not Bronze. You’d think that by playing with great players so often they’d eventually learn a thing or two.
99% of those smurfs you see are plats/golds lying about being gm.
A gm doesn’t need to derank lower than masters to dominate games, some are diamond if they want to play with their plat friends. The chances you actually find a real gm doing a bronze to gm challenge are very low. The idea that the top 1% are ruining your silver games is laughable.
This is pretty true. Out of couple hundred smurfs i know in bronze less than a dozen are masters+. The vast majority of them are under diamond. Or they are diamond tank gold dps ect.
Low rank players really cant comprehend how much better actually good players are so they think anything above gold looks like masters+ smurfs in their games.
It’s not gm smurfs that are screwing up high bronze low silver. It’s platish diamond retards who run road to bronze lobbies on a regular basis for boosting purposes. THEY are the problem.

I agree with you. I have several accounts I reached diamond and when I play a low account I Suddenly see someone is killing my whole team. I switch to dps and just find out it is a plat or diamond.
The lowest a GM could suffer is plat, unless they are boosting for money. The difference between a GM and M is so high, you will become crazy playing a gold game. A M will carry so hard a plat game. And ofc there are booster GM, but it should be so low.
Uh… no. Smurfs don’t play a normal game. They play to amuse themselves. They spawn camp, they do weird flanks, they do trick shots on Hanzo and Widow… and they ignore the objective, and often disappear or at least suffer a sudden inability to hit anything in the last moments of the match so that despite everything they did they still lose the match.
You can’t learn mechanical skill by dying to mechanical skill, and if you try to imitate the playstyle and positioning of smurfs you’ll be teaching yourself absolutely terrible habits.
A lot of smurfs are also ridiculously easy to kill in ways they never would be if they were playing seriously… you can walk right up behind them and headshot them, for example, because y’know, they’re drinking or smoking with the music cranked up to 11. Not all of them do this of course, and you won’t really know until you try, but quite a few of them are utterly unresponsive to sound cues. If you learn from that… well… yeah, that could go badly in the future if you expect it to work regularly.
Never mind that most low rank players don’t even know when they are playing with or against a smurf. There’s a lot of people thinking they are carrying when a smurf carries them, or thinking their team is bad when a smurf is tearing them apart.
Well. I can’t blame them, I didn’t start recognizing who the smurfs were until I started taking notes on the ‘road to bronze’ type thrower groups and paying a lot of attention to the problem. It has done a lot for my game awareness, anyway.
No, smurfs / trolls / throwers are pathetic Gold / Plat / Diamond people who think they should be GM, but can’t handle the climb, so they get an alternate account to feel better about themselves by destroying bronzies.
Some people who derank do so to play with friends. They’re usually not jerks, but they don’t need to go to bronze to play with their friends, because 1500 Silvers can group with their friends even if they’re <500. However, grouping with bronze people when you belong in Gold+ still damages the fairness of bronze games, so it still should be reported.
funny enough i have tried that, unintentionally when i was visiting my parents i had to play on an old pc getting max 50 fps, a blurry monitor and a mouse with a real ball inside, and i played heroes i don’t usually play
guess what i still placed mid gold as a plat back then

Didnt know IQ had correlation in a game where you know reflexes and mechanical skill are important too.

It is easy to get over ranked just doing your placements. You have to throw REALLY hard to get placed sub 1700. This is why gold and high silver are filled with people that should be more like 1200.
I one tricked mercy for my placements back in season 3 and got placed into plat. I then proceeded to lose 1000 SR.
Standards change. Plat level play of season 8 is probably low silver at best today.
If you play overwatch without using your brain then I would not expect you to go farer than bronze
