There is a smurf in literally every single game. I’m not even exaggerating. Ever since I hit diamond, the games have made a 180 turn in how they play out, but not because I got higher in rank. I have yet to play a game where there is not at least one dude with level 25-100 account who just smashes everyone either on my team or the enemy. In reality, the number of these players in each game is closer to about 3-5.
Then there are the 600+ levels who play one hero and you can clearly see that they are actually way better than the SR they play at. And when you check their profile, they have no history of playing that hero whatsoever but they are godlike with them anyway.
Is there even any point in that number we call SR anymore? When everyone just buys these alternate accounts and purposely play at low ranks or pay for SR boosting services? I can only see it getting worse and there will surely be another 50% discount on the game soon, and then another one soon after that.
SR just doesn’t provide the feedback it used to anymore. I don’t even know if I’m actually climbing by playing well or if I’m being carried by smurfs only to get stomped by other smurfs later.
Until they start losing more money than they are making w/all the smurfs, boosting donkey butts going around essentially ruining games, I dont see anything happening.
I’ve reported for 8 seasons. I’ve reported “de-ranking” teams, and never, ever get a “thank-you for report” reply. Oh, sure, report someone for being “toxic”, but heaven forbid that toxicity is displayed by either throwing a game, or 70% participating kills in a game.
Take all the other things they’ve ‘fixed’ in this game and how long its taken for them to even do something about it, either 1-tricks, LFG function ect, by the time ANYTHING, and by ANYTHING I mean even a comment about it, you, me and countless others will be long gone and scattered to various other games that it wont even matter.
Best course of action, sit in spawn, dont afk, give them a boring game to the point its not worth doing anymore is only real recourse.
In diamond this isn’t called deranking this is called decay. Sure they have multiple accounts, but this is acceptable. If they were smurfing they wouldnt be in diamond they’d be in a much lower bracket roflstomping people. When you stop playing you lose 50SR a day until you hit diamond (3k SR). In diamond, roughly the top 10% of all players, you should all have enough game sense to take down T500 players with coordination. If not, how do you expect to climb to Masters+? You have to fight these people at some point. I realize this isn’t a popular opinion, but this is the reality of competitive. Fighting a T-500 in diamond is less of a big deal than said T-500 one trick healer deciding now’s a good time to learn dps. Now T-500 is just an example but the reality is you’re not fighting an OWL 6 stack where everyone is on an alt account. It’s one player marginally better than the bracket they are in, you’re experienced enough to counter them.
When players are consistently able to create new accounts and end up >1000SR apart from their other accounts, it becomes pretty obvious the system has major issues. Similarly, when a person can go up or down over 400SR in a single day, or over 800SR in just a weekend, which can be equivalent to over 50% of the entire player populations skill, in just 48 hours, it speaks volumes of how awful the system is.
I have to agree with smurfs this season being out of control. I look at ppls portraits and normally know if we are in for a rough match . Had a enemy hanzo on blizz world yesterday headshotting for fun when called out he said he was just lucky …he had a quad headshot potg and was lvl 25 something. Its pathetic why would someone want to just ruin lower elo games I honestly dont get it
This happens to me all the time. Trying my hardest and I get plummeted from 3200 to 2300 then gain it all back in a couple days. I blame a lot of it on the community having bad attitudes, 1 tricking, smurfing, playing unfamiliar roles or heros. Happens to me every season this one was probably the worst. I just lost 4 games in a row playing with people who all were arguing or refused to swap chars to counter or gave up after 1 round just because the enemy did good. Yesterday I had a nice win streak with good team mates so I guess I get punished today. lul

The point is, I can’t expect to get better if the games are so unbalanced only because of these people. Say one team gets duoQ smurf premade and the other team does not. Who do you think wins the game? You can’t expect non-premade teams to be coordinated enough to take down such enemies. Sure, you need to get better somehow, but take it like this for example:
You decided to start MMA. There are people who have been doing it for years and are really good at it. You go there a few times a week and everytime, all you get is
a beating by the experienced people. Are you going to learn anything that way? This is what playing against smurfs so often does.
After some times, you get to go to an MMA championship. But when you are about to go and fight, a much more experienced guy steps in a wins the match for you. That is what being carried by a smurf feels like. You didn’t earn that win but you still got credit for it.
I have to agree, since the lfg system and private profiles got introduced its a lot easier to smurf.
Maybe not every second game, but every third game there is a smurf on either my or the enemy team. I seem to have been getting quite unlucky lately (like low diamond now - literally played 3 times against the same smurf 3 stack just now and even waited a few minutes before starting the queue again - nice balanced system there… If thats how it is now without performance based sr I want it back for diamond) where every game without smurfs feels way too easy but I cant get back to master without spending way more time than just a day or two.
It’s actually just sad. This game was announced in 2014. It came out in 2016. The boosting has just gotten worse, and worse, and worse, and worse, and worse. I’m 2600 and I’m playing with a ~1700 buddy and we go against 3 stacks that are so obviously boosting it’s not funny.
FYI, I’m 100% convinced that it is the overt rating system that is to blame. Go play Counter-Strike. Yes, there are boosters. But the fact that you don’t know when you’re going to rank up just changes the equation entirely.
I’m sad to be quitting Overwatch other than playing with friends. The game is just complete garbage at any SR below 3500.
