Imagine, as you will, Reaper in his current state with a primarily spread-fire weapon that works significantly better at close range, making him a very high-risk hero to play.
Now imagine giving Reaper a new secondary fire that allowed him to shoot a pinpoint slug instead of buckshot from his weapon, all at the press of the right click on your mouse. This would give Reaper a more effective mid-range move that would allow him to do more things than ever before, and I think that this would serve to be very beneficial to him in the long run, if balanced proper.
Here’s what I think would work if he ever got the ability to fire slugs:
Secondary Fire - Hellfire Shotgun (Slug Shot)
- Damage: 40-125
- Fall-off Range: 17 to 32 meters
- Projectile Type: Hitscan
- Spread: Pinpoint
Immediately, what this would do would be giving Reaper his own secondary fire to better contest characters from slightly further ranges than before while not giving him too much to make said change overwhelming. This gives him a more consistent method of close-quarters one-shot potential that greatly rewards more skillful play and cunning. Of course, you won’t be shooting any Pharahs or Widowmakers out of the sky or long range, so it would be far more beneficial to come at them full force if you can get into closer proximity.
In addition, this would be the only real buff to his kit that he would possibly need for the foreseeable future. It would grant Reaper far better utility and give more purpose to his playstyle in a way that could possibly make his pickrate a lot better. Plus, I think it would make Reaper more fun to play as since, obviously, it’s a new ability he has.
Maybe I’m silly for ever suggesting this, but I think this is what Reaper needs to really make him a character people could consider picking. There’s a lot of nuanced benefits this could have that I’m not considering currently, but there may be quite a lot of outcomes if this was ever a thing.
