Slightly different post about Overwatch

I’ve been criticising the current state of the game for it’s balance and flaws in coding a lot lately and I just wanted to take a different approach on this thread.

We all love Overwatch because of what it does right. The hero design and all the social features that you can communicate and interact with (highlight intros, skins, animations etc.) have always been the heart of the game and I’m cautiously positive that it carried on to Overwatch 2. Besides all the criticism the devs get on their live product it’s easy to forget that in the beginning they just wanted to morph an MMO into a fun TF2-esque shooter with deep, multicultural characters embedded in an immersive futuristic universe. This has always been the strength of overwatch and still is. The game got so big and deserved more attention from the global audience but it fell off due to unfullfilled expectations and content droughts.

Surely, some balance decisions and hero gameplay related design decisions were a big part of why people started to avoid overwatch or moved on to something else.

All in all that’s the explanation for anytime a new hero gets released, it draws those old players back into their childhood fantasies, let’s play some overwatch.

I hope blizzard can turn it around. Maybe after they get the acquisition deal through with Microsoft, get some more development resources and let things settle for a bit, we’re looking into a bright future. We all can’t forget that the whole world and economy is in a crisis right now. Workplaces are not safe, a lot of people are overworked, corporate people are just corporate people, shareholders are applying pressure and I feel like it might not be the right time for a lot of innovation and making the game as good as it could be.

I hope they can fix most of the current issues with the game by the time PVE launches, the blizz deal go through and everything is set. It’s like in life, there are always up’s and down’s and sometimes we just have to wait and see what happens. In 2016, no one expected overwatch. And then boom. Let’s make it happen again. Much love.
