Skins for hours with a hero

Make super-unique skins for the number of hours spent in a competitive mode with a certain hero.

  • 500h - this skin
  • 1000h - cool skin
  • 2500h - super cool skin

I like the idea, though, I think that’ll just promote people to play one hero all the time, even if it means losing the game just to get a bit of extra time on them.

This is what gold weapons should’ve been all along. Silver, gold, diamond, etc for hours on each hero. Tying them to comp was stupid.

I thought about one-tricking, but it happens no matter the incentive. I personally prefer to know that a player is good at least at a certain hero than expect him to flex to what he plays the worse. In the end, if all heroes will have those super-unique skins, those OTPs will probably have a motivation to learn other heroes . So, kinda win-win situation imo.

If borders are any indication, you’d get made fun of relentlessly for having those skins. Especially if you’re a girl and play Mercy or play an unpopular hero like Bastion.

So? Just mute them. Avoid them. Block them. There’s options for that already.

I think it doesn’t matter if you will have skins on top of the border that made fun of you :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
But skins could be really good, you know =)

A bastion with a 2k hours skin would be a god.

Bastion after 2500 hours become terminator look with a gatling cannon

Those are all well and good, but they only work after getting harassed. Then the next game you run into entirely new participants and start from scratch.

I’m not saying we should scrap everything that might get you harassed, but we should be aware of how it might be framed.

I say, if you get above 1000 hours on any character, you get small buffs to that character. Having something like a new or secondary passive would be cool lol

2500h? Are you serious?
2500h * 32 = 80,000h = ~ 9 years uninterrupted.
2500h alone are over 100 days.

Hell, I probably have 350h in the whole game (and I’ve had it since 2016)
5h, 10h, 20h would still be reasonably realistic or skins for the achievements but a damn 2500h for ONE skin? With the total playing time of all the games in my life, I can just about manage this duration.

This is not going to happen for one simple reason:

Making a Skin is a lot of work, so Blizzard has to profit from it.
Skins in Lootboxes bring them money, OWL Skins bring them money and higher viewer numbers, Challenge Skins boost their Monthly Active User numbers.

Though I don’t see what Blizzard would gain out of this way of releasing Skins.

Maybe not 2500 hours :grimacing:

I think that’s a cool idea and in ow2 I’d love if gold guns shift to something like this, at 50 hours you get silver, 100 gold and 150 diamond or something. That would be cool and add a great dynamic to the game
Maybe though it could encourage 1 tricking which would be a bit annoying but that’s gonna exist either way and you can’t really get mad at those people. Just encourage them politely to switch

Gets people to play the game → makes them more likely to spend money

If it didn’t work this way then no multiplayer game would have milestone rewards

I doubt that it would influence the player count or the time players spend in the game a lot.
If at all it would noticeably influence what heroes players are picking - in a potentially negative way.

They would be better of tying them to limited time events to push MAU numbers or Battle Passes to make money with them.
