Skins Are Starting to Look Better

Just saw the season 8 preview skins, I literally loved most of them. It’s good to see the art team finding their rhythm

Cass finally got a new skin which is the best black on black skin in the game.

Mauga volcano skin is cool.

Ana has a cool purple ninja skin.

Bap has a nice blanc suit skin with matching eye piece and shoulder mount.

yeah, getting more and more cluttered and over detailed.
Im a Widowmain, so i do only care about Skins for Widow. even if some skins are an auto pass for me (because they are based on her OW2 Skin) they are getting more and more details. The recent Skin hast just much details and is to skimpy and also the hair, why asymmetrical, with this color (i normally like ginger, but it does not work with her skincolor) and all those spikes.

They really need to Think about some mantras:
“less is more”
and
“form follows function”

I don’t love the big bow on the front and I don’t think she needed to flatten her hair, but I will 100% part with money for Tracer’s formal wear skin.

They are getting lazier and lazier with the skins. A lot of those are just OW1 recolours.

Which is funny to me because when skins were free in OW1 it seemed like they put more love into making them. It was also fun and exciting waiting to see what they had came up with for events. Now it’s just ‘meh’ at best.

It feels like the artists are turned into sweatshop workers: it’s all about how many skins they can ‘create’ to sell. Quantity over quality.

I came away with the opposite impression, OP. There’s a load of recolours in this season and I have to wonder whether they’ve exhausted their stock of cosmetics built up during the OW1 content drought. It doesn’t help that even the bloomin’ mythic looks like a touch-up of an existing legendary.

this tracer skin seems… odd, so odd.
i think they’re trying to test out different styles, and less detailed skins, which is concerning to say the least… specially with how they’re trying to pump out skins that have less details, less work, less effects.

and the fact that they started recoloring older skin and putting them in the shop is concerning enough, they look cool… sure, but it just prove that they favouring the number of skins rather than quality

certainly true for season 7 and everything before, but were getting somewhere

there was a a lot of new stuff

I don’t like any of the battle pass ones but some of the Xmas ones are nice.

It’s not even that, because there are less skins per event in ow2, the artists aren’t working in sweatshop conditions it’s more all the artists want too much money for their art so blizzard outsources work. More profit for less expenditure.

Both of mercys skins look amazing and I am super excited for them, especially the Christmas one!! I haven’t liked a skin of hers this much since the bee skin in season 3 (the best skin ever)

honestly I don’t mind elegant skins… but they seem too minimal in detail. For example, elegant skins like Lucio Jazz or Doofist formal have shown us a lot of details in their battle equipment, while for example Tracer gives up showing it in her outfit, and the same goes for Cassidy who for a moment seems like a black version of his gambler skin with the ow2 skin head.

the most disappointing part of this type of skin? The weapons: they are also recolors in this round. and I’m frankly tired of seeing so many ow2 skins that include pieces of things left half done with modeling. Since OW2 was released, starting with Kiriko’s legendary ones, they have tended to offer recolor pieces on the weapons.

and the same goes for Orisa’s skin: she has the rifle variant, but not the javelin. another -1 to the features given up on mythic skins. And I should praise the fact that they set 1200 coins for weapons that I had to try to match when with 1900 coins (over half the price) I previously had skins that provided greater stylistic coordination GUARANTEED?

honestly I’m sorry that there is always a silent way to do less but with the same exaggerated prices. especially seeing that in this season there will be 10 new RECOLORS, two of which are derived from ow1 which will certainly be sold with OW2 prices without using coins. I’m sorry, but this is where I don’t feel like applauding the developers’ effort.

I saw 100% commitment in OWL skins, sold specifically for the e-sports program. or for the waifus of the community (causally Mercy) but not for Baptiste who perhaps her last REAL skin 100% excellent in style was Funky. And how did they waste the opportunity with Atlantean Sojourn with a non-divisible bundle? or for the Moira Lilith skin? There is a time to be detailed and a time to do little but with a good theme. look at Junkrat’s epic skins, we can literally summarize them like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DaOgZwk9rN8

in the past the epics followed the themes much better, if you think for example of Baptiste’s terracotta skin or Junkrat’s grinch skin. I notice, however, that it is from season 6 that they start giving slightly “random” epic skins in the battlepass.

Formal Tracer and Sojourn, Jingle Belle Mercy, Polar Bear Hog and Cartographer Mei were the only ones to really stand out to me. (Mei only because I’m biased and love any Mei cosmetic tbh)

The more recolors I saw, the less interested I felt for the season overall.

I’m absolutely adoring the tracer skin because it’s just so clean and simple. It fits her personality and it’s snazzy AF.

Yeah, there’s like 5 great skins this season and the systematically avoided putting any of the good ones in the battlepass or the new second battlepass

with my “less is more” I was not talking about Tracers skin. I was talking about that Widowskin. It has just much in any regard.

I have guarded my wallet since OW2 dropped and never once dropped a single dime for any shop skin, even for my favorite hero.

This Tracer skin though…They shall have my money.
