Skill based or spam based?

I’m a big fan of Overwatch and play it almost everyday for hours. There’s almost no any other game like Overwatch based on providing a variety of different playing styles enabled by lots of heroes and because of that, this game is still very popular among players even if being a 4 - 5 years old one. On the other hand, there are some map designs which actually damage Overwatch very hard. The main issue about this is that there are maps created without the game sense of thinking ahead in terms of whether Overwatch is a ‘‘skill based’’ or ‘‘spam based’’ game. If the attacker team, for example, has only 1 option (or only 1 way according to the map design) to get to the point, they will be spammed by the opponent team whether they recognise them or not. The defending team doesn’t need that much skill as the attacker team or also not to predict what they might do. Therefore, the best defending strategy then is to spam as much as possible. During such a tough condition, the attacker team needs to peek and has to make skillfull damage while taking a lot of spam damage. This issue points that spamming has a massive impact in this game!

My suggestion is that the maps (designed for future purposes) should provide many options to reach the point to avoid converting Overwatch to a ‘‘spam based’’ game.

I like Overwatch a lot and wanna play it for further years! Hope the best for the Team, for the Game and of course, for Blizzard…

I think that in order to avoid spam situations there are some possible solutions.

  1. pick counters, especially in choke dive is a great option to cancel the choke effect quickly without getting killed to death. remember there’s a quick triangle of dive>stationary>Brawl>dive. most spammers are stationary heroes and so picking divers make a lot of sense to counter that.

  2. Create your own path. Some heroes are capable of making their own special path and avoid chokes and single paths. Echo,Pharah,Reaper,Moira & Symmetra can easily create a different path. you can even include divers for going avoid or through the path fast…

  3. Like you suggested, pick a long range hero and just avoid the choke…
    Bastion, Hanzo, Widowmaker, Ashe, Torbjorn, Zenyatta, Ana, Orisa, Hog, Soldier:76 and maybe even Junkrat can just stay back and shoot the enemies without actually pushing in.

Spam can be annoying but you have to take in mind overwatch is not skill or spam. it’s the combination of both, and so each hero should have places he’s better or worse in order to make sure every hero got a place to shine.
