Skiesti weighs in on Mercy in beta

I’m Worried About Mercy in Overwatch 2

The idea that the game changes as Mercy stays the same has been true for awhile now, but never has it been so dramatic.

I feel like the game is leaving Mercy in the dust. She is in desperate need of an overhaul.

Flat out, I feel like if I want to carry a match and have autonomy, I do not pick Mercy. That’s a problem in a 5v5 environment where everyone is supposed to be more self-sufficient.

There’s a few good points in this video. The best, in my opinion, is that every other support has methods of self-healing on top of the regen passive except Mercy now. Zenyatta got survivability buffs for roughly the same reason, even though I’d argue he’s much better at defending himself.

The split nature of OW2 can also be pretty detrimental to Mercy’s movement. There are situations where the person you’re healing dies and you can struggle to find a target to retreat to. Overall it just means your options are much more limited.

The other thing that irks me is resurrect. You have to resurrect as Mercy if you want to contribute, but it’s incredibly risky almost all of the time you use it. It can be very powerful but this means you’re constantly having to put yourself at risk if you want to compete with other supports.

Azrael - you are absolutely right! She needs more autonomy and in my view that can come from only two sources - she can output real damage of her own or she gets more consistent mobility (preferably a mobility option that isn’t reliant on the positioning of your team-members.)

All that rings true and in all honesty, ress should get a buff in OW2 where it’s possible to pull off more impactful resses.

Having 30s cooldown make you a sitting duck on a game with fast TTK, snowballing, near unstoppable dps ultis and wide terrain is not good when it’s her biggest agency move. She definitely has more room to resurrect in ow1 so it’s less riskier, but in ow2 it’s even more crucial that she actually get the ress off in impactful moments since there are less players, so resurrect has greater impact. Rest of her kit still won’t provide her much agency, but her kit is still iconic and fun, so I also wouldn’t change that part of her kit.

It should definitely be faster, have more range and slow her down less, so she has the ability to use terrain for her advantage and use decision making to determine whether ressing is good option to go for asap. Best resses are often done when the enemy team hasn’t had the chance to react to it yet and the decision making has to be snappy. But in OW2, she will just get constantly punished by having a teammate die in a snowball even in the cases where she pulls off a great ress.

It also forces mercy to rely on valkyrie to pull off resses and be impactful, which also diminishes valkyrie as versatile ultimate. Valk should not be a glorified ress button.

And speaking of valkyrie, it also needs a buff, considering she lost a teammate entirely so it’s power went down by a whopping 20%. Nowdays it’s just better to pull out the glock and go kill enemy supports by yourself because chain beams are too weak and players are too spread out. It should be an ultimate with versatile options that depend of the situation at hand, not “go kill this enemy player because your beams suck now”.

If she can’t use her beams, her primary weapon, in valkyrie efficiently and it’s always better to just go moth mercy mode because it’s more optimal, then valkyrie as a support ultimate is a failed ultimate in OW2 iteration.

Maybe it’s time valkyrie goes down from 15s uptime to 12s and gets more juiced up on the beams to make up for lack of players and have longer chain beams. I don’t think breakpoints matter that much anymore since it’s a big team DM fest anyway and everyone dies ultra fast regardless.

And since we apparently need to dps more, her weapon swap speed needs to be faster, it should not remain this anemic in fast TTK environment if she’s to continue to play around snap decision making skillset that the best mercy players are known for.

I definitely dont want a more battle mercy playstyle, id rather:
more mobility
a faster rez
Increase beam range
longer range rez
Swapping rez and valk
More mobility while rezing
Faster ga esp while valking
More move speed in valk

Any of these or a mix of these. Im not gonna say stop the disconnection of her beam when ulting because that’s definitely getting added. Its common sense right!!!

I want mercy to dig into that combat medic play style i feel in love with and become more evasive and hard to kill despite 3 ppl attacking her. I dont want this to be by way of damage buffs, but a little bump to help her pocket safely and out maneuver the Dps like good mercies always could.

I use to average 3 deaths a game but in beta i think its like 7 or 8.

Even fixing her GA bug on the beta might help that tho.

Honestly tho i also think its the nature of qp. The amount of times i rez someone while falling into illios well (cuz its safe to rez there) and the persone i rez jus runs off like F you mercy, makes me cry.

The amount of times i ping the flank for my random pocket to see and they ignore it baffles me. Then I remember, thats how qp is.

What if… we actually made guardian angel fly faster on default and gave it 5m more range from the current 30m?

I mean, if mercy is supposed to survive on OW2 and be mobile because she provides little else, she should probably be even better with it on an environment that is even more hostile to her than the previous one.

Lucio is doing great because healing passive stacks with his auras, so he can just wallride all day and not die. He can tank multiple hanzo bodyshots and keep juking him while wallriding at full speeds. Mercy really got nothing out of the support passive, she plays exactly the same but with less room for error because there is less tank soaking up damage and dps are just running wild. Making her more agile would definitely help in that regard that she can fly around and take less damage and proc her passive better.

Honestly more range on resurrect could be dangeriously huge considering you could do a full super jump and not have it break than. Would make super jump resurrecting 10 times easier.

yea i have noticed that rezz’ing is a bit more difficult in ow2 because of how fast pace and how strong dive/flanks are. your more at risk then in overwatch 2 especially on some of these new maps. the bad thing is that res is also more important in 5v5 compared to 6v6

getting a rez on a tank is huge in 5v5 tho if you somehow manage to pull it off but it isnt easy since the tank usually dies right in the middle of the enemy team
