Sinzh - Sound Device Issue

I hate to necro a thread but I am still experiencing this issue where Overwatch (and just Overwatch, this doesnt happen with anything else, not even other Blizzard games) switches off my default sound device. Using Windows 10 Home 10.0.18362.

Is there anything we can do to fix this cause it results in me losing games and fubaring my team too.

Hey, Sinzh! I moved this over to a new thread. It sounds a bit like there may be some resampling issues since this can impact Overwatch often. Could we try checking the resample rates match for both default devices?

  1. Right click on the Sound Icon, click on Sound (For newer versions of Windows, click on Open Sound Settings > Under Related Settings , click on “Sound Control Panel”).
  2. Go to the Playback Tab, right click on the active device and click on Properties .
  3. Go to the Advanced Tab. Under Default Format , keep note for what the bit depth and sample rates are. For most playback devices, it should be 16 bit, 48000Hz.
  4. Close the previous window and now check the Recording Tab’s properties (step 2 & 3). If the Recording device’s sample rate is different than the playback devices, make sure they match up. For most recording devices, it should be 2 channel, 16-bit, 48000Hz.

If it continues, are there any issues when disabling other devices?

  1. Right click on the Sound Icon, click on Sound (For newer versions of Windows, click on Open Sound Settings > Under Related Settings , click on “Sound Control Panel”).
  2. Go to the Playback Tab.
  3. For all unused devices, right click and Disable . To re-enable devices in the future, right click and select “Show Disabled Devices.”
  4. Do the step 3 for the Recording Tab.

What device does it default to (ie. another headset or speaker/monitor)? Let’s gather a DxDiag file. Copy and paste the text file created and paste it between two ~~~ like so:

I had earlier posted about my Overwatch sound problems when I tried to update Windows to version 1903. Overwatch wouldn’t recognize my sound card (ASUS Strix Soar) after that update, and I reverted back to v.1803 and have stuck with this version because of Overwatch alone. I had no sound issues within v.1903 for any other games or applications.

I’m posting to note that I currently have a conflict between the bit depth/sample rate of my playback (16 bit, 48000 hz) and recording (16 bit, 44000 hz) devices. This is within v.1803. Overwatch is working perfectly fine. I’ll recheck these settings when I dare to try upgrading to v.1903 again. Is it possible that the bit depth/sample rate discrepancy would only have adverse consequences for Overwatch within some Windows OS versions and not others?

I set all settings everywhere to 2 channel, 16-bit, 48000Hz 10 days ago and that seems to have fixed the sound quitting issue. It also seemed to have fixed some other glitchy sound related behaviour that I was experiencing with just Overwatch.

Thank you.

(sorry for delay in response, I wanted to give it some time to ensure the attempt was actually solid)

Thanks for trying it out for a few days just to be sure  Glad to hear it helped, Sinzh!

I find CD quality works best for mine 16-bit 41000Hz,
