Single player being in OW2 is a make or break for the longevity and progression of PvE
This is my most requested feature for the game by far. What if there’s no one playing your desired mission? What if you want to go at your own pace without pressure from others? What if the time/region you are on has no playerbase and you just want to jump in and play?
At the very least give us AI teammates to work with you if not matchmaking.
I have made this thread many times but I feel it is absolutely essential for the game to succeed
What does everyone think about Single player or no-fill PvE missions?

I don’t think this is something they have planned, and I highly doubt this is a make or break.
If anything, the Looking-for-Group tool is going to be a lot more useful.

Comparisons will be rampant, I already can tell people will yell ‘gameplay is not as good as Borderlands, a decade old game.’ or ‘No where near as engaging as L4D’. Let’s hope it doesn’t end up being forgotten like Back 4 Blood was.
Probably not but I really can’t name a co-operative shooter with absolutely no way to not fill randoms. Some optional content like Strikes/raids in Destiny yeah but remember a game called GTFO failed flat so quickly without a solo option or any matchmaking whatsoever.

Having played a lil bit of Back 4 Blood, it’s a strange experience because there’s an upgrade system but it was locked behind multiplayer for a bit, and even then it isn’t permanent.
And even then, the upgrades don’t shake up gameplay on a larger scale so it can’t hide behind the excuse of giving replayability via playstyles.
At least with OW2, with the old talent system, it’s primed to shake up gameplay a bunch, likr with Reinhardt swapping from shield savant to hammer herald depending on talents you pick.
There's a second opinion for you
How is the difficulty options? I’ve been playing alot of Extreme on WWZ so I’m hoping OW2 can bring as much challenge and strategy. Big punishment on death and you’re all made of glass, I love a good challenge
wtf… Who makes PvE without singleplayer? OW devs killing me here…

Check out “It Takes Two,” I think it was this year’s The Game Awards top winner.

Ayyo co-op mode where it’s just Mercy and Moira trying to fight through Omnics while constantly bickering at each other, whens it gonna happen
I wouldn’t mind an option to play story missions single player but I definitely want to play hero missions with other players and my friends etc
Single Player PvE is quite possibile. From IGN interview with Jeff Kaplan:
ign[dot]com/articles/overwatch-2-at-blizzcon-2021-the-big-jeff-kaplan-interview
IGN: And will we be able to play story missions solo or offline? Or is this still definitively an online team game in that regard?
Jeff Kaplan: I’ll give you a weird answer: it’s kind of both. It is definitively an online cooperative story experience. That’s what we think is cool and unique and innovative about it. You don’t traditionally play story or campaign games with other people, and we think that’s going to make it feel very distinctly Overwatch or Overwatch 2. With that said, we are working on friendly AI and, if we can get it to a point that we’re satisfied with, we’re okay with the AI existing in some cases. An easy example is if somebody goes linkdead or something, we don’t want to ruin the experience for the other three players.
Perhaps we just let you play [with AI], but that’s not officially decided yet, and there are a lot of technical hurdles for us to get over. So we’re working on the friendly AI, I don’t know if it will get to a point where it’s good enough that we think you would have a great experience playing just by yourself but we’re definitely open to it, and that’s something we’re going to push on throughout the development of the game.

Look at it from the other perspective.
Blizz have poured years of development time and let the original game stagnate to implement PvE (and OW2).
They will throw everything to make players want to play this mode as much as possible.
(yes, naturally if you live in a low-pop country, you may not get many games during 12am-6am…)
I’d prefer if I can grind hero missions alone when I want.
Like I play at ridiculous AM hours, what if I just can’t find anyone

There are mechanics in other games where you can start solo but people can backfill mid mission, is that something you’d be into ? Or just strictly solo
That would be cool as long as there’s difficulty scaling that adjusts to your party size
My man Jeff clearly never heard of Gears of War, Halo, Borderlands, Fortnite Save the World, Destiny, Dead Rising, State of Decay, and etc… Plenty of co-op story mode PvE games out there.

I wouldn’t expect single player, but I would really expect that to be the standard (which is why I do not expect it from Blizzard).
Yes, plenty, but in comparision, there are A WAAAAAAY more single player games.
Today on ‘things I didn’t know I needed until now’…

This is what they need to do and do it well. The whole mode is looking like it’s going to essentially be ripping off Left 4 Dead but with a skill tree, implement AI like L4D which are predictable and more importantly, useful. That way you can effectively play single player.
If they do what back 4 blood have done and implement braindead AI that are so useless you may aswell be playing solo while also balancing the game around everyone having 5k hours in the game it won’t be enjoyable.
