Since Jeff asked what role she should be, Suggestion for Echo - First Triple Role Hero

Hear me out a second. You know how bastion can switch between sentry and recon mode? Let’s apply that to Echo, but take it a step further and give her 3 modes.

Just looking at her, her design is elegant and beautiful and screams support, so that would be her “base” mode, the mode she starts in at spawn.

Each mode would see her adopt 2 to 3 different abilities depending on which mode she’s in and the color of her face would change so anyone can see what mode she’s in just from looking at her.

Her abilities would be assigned to Ctrl, Alt, Shift, E, and Right Click

Primary Fire - more or less the same across all modes - Echo fires energy projectiles from the palm of her right (or left) hand, like Iron Man. Most effective against mid range enemies.

Alt - Damage mode - If in any mode other than Damage, pressing Alt will see Echo go into Damage mode. If already in Damage mode, pressing Alt will see Echo drop the mode and revert back to her default Support mode.

Ctrl - Tank mode - If in any mode other than Tank, pressing Ctrl will see Echo go into Tank mode. If already in Tank mode, pressing Ctrl will see Echo drop the mode and revert back to her default Support mode.

There should be a cooldown on how often she can switch modes, maybe 10 seconds between mode shifts.

The Shift, E, Right Click, and even the Q abilities will change depending on what mode she’s in. A few example suggestions.

Support Mode - Echo will have 100 health and 100 shields - Blue Face

Shift - Regenerate Protocol - Heals the targeted ally (like zen orb targeting) for 75. Short cooldown.

E - Protection Protocol - applies 250 shields to all allies within range and line of sight (Echo does not receive the shields). The 250 is divided equally among all allies. If the entire group is together, that’s 50 shields to each ally. If only one is nearby, that one gets 250. The shields last as long as Echo’s allies remain in range and line of sight of her. Pressing E when allies already have shielding refreshes and redistributes the shielding.

Right Click - Speed Protocol - increases Echo’s speed briefly so that she can move to allies or escape enemies more quickly

Q - Haste Protocol - Grants all allies within range and line of sight 25% increased movement and attack speed for 8 seconds.

Damage Mode - Echo will have 150 health and 50 shields - Red Face - Her primary fire and melee attacks deal 50% more damage over the Support and Tank modes

Shift - Assassination Protocol - A single, long range, high energy beam blasts forth from Echo’s forehead and strikes the selected target (target mechanic like zen orbs). High damage, long cooldown.

E - Rapid Fire Protocol - Echo’s primary fire has a greatly increased fire rate with minimal spread increase. (for faster firing when accuracy is important, such as a medium to long range target)

Right Click - Burst Fire Protocol - similar to Rapid Fire Protocol but does not reduce weapon spread and has a shorter cooldown. (for faster firing when accuracy is not as important, such as close range or large targets)

Q - Annihilation Protocol - Launches a large ball of concentrated energy that loses containment and detonates on impact, dealing high damage in a medium area.

Tank Mode - Echo will have 150 health, 50 armor, and 400 shields - Purple Face

Shift - Intervention Protocol - This is a sustained ability. Once activated it remains active until disabled. Redirects 50% of ranged attacks within a certain radius around Echo to Echo herself. Effect ends when Echo’s shields drop to zero or she presses Shift again.

E - Mitigation Protocol - All damage Echo sustains is reduced by 50% for the duration of the ability.

Right Click - Shield Recovery Protocol - Echo will regenerate her lost shields very quickly even while under attack.

Q - Bulwark Protocol - Echo creates a sustained barrier wall directly in front of her. 4 times as large as Reinhardt’s barrier with 5000 hp. Echo cannot move while Bulwark Protocol is in effect however she can use any of her other abilities at the while Bulwark Protocol is active if she so chooses. Bulwark Protocol lasts until the barrier is destroyed or she presses Q again to end it.

Shield Tank. Lods of shields, can give shields to allies. Possibly passively in a radius around her, so there’s a natural impetus to focus the tank so everyone else loses their shields. A sort of natural threat draw.

And fix the face. No I will not stop.

Made a small edit. Forgot to mention face colors.

I had a sailor moon inspired concept that could change classes, so this idea is something I’d love to see!

5 dps that won’t switch?? Echo got your back lol

Yeah that’s a really good benefit of this idea. If you’re on Echo as a dps and the team needs another tank, no one has to run back to spawn or suicide to switch. Echo can just switch on the fly.

I really love this idea but I’d make a few changes. Instead of having her swap modes or stances maybe make her link with another hero and Echo some of their abilities… Like Mcree’s flash bang or Brigs flail whip. That way there’s only one single button for all the stances rather than 2.

I think she should have her own way of attacking and I agree with the pulse blaster like Ironman’s suit. I think it should be more spread out like a shotgun almost when not aiming down the sights and more focused and smaller like a hit scan when aiming down the sights.

When Echoing with a support hero she could act like a payload or Lucio and auto heal for a small amount in a radius around herself or even give off shields like what Grumpy said but instead have it just fill the missing HP of a hero with shields over time instead of adding it on top of their current HP.

Echoing a DPS hero: Gains faster movement speed and shorter skill recharges/cool downs her primary fire is like a shotgun of hard light. Think Symmetra beam crossed with reaper shotguns. Her alt fire is the same as what ever DPS she Echos.

For Echoing a tank she should gain the HP of that tank and instead of armor or flat HP gain she just fills the gap with shields. Her normal fire is still like a shotgun but her alt fire is a charged up beam that shoots out in a wide area and she can’t move much when charging it. Think Moira ult mixed with a Doomfist right click.

TANKS

Winston: give Echo a lesser jump pack ability and a larger bubble with as much or less HP and instead of throwing it down she spreads it out from herself and has to maintain it for a few seconds or until it breaks.

Reinhardt: give Echo his shield smaller and with half the HP and his charge but instead of pinning people she just knocks them away like the newly added Bob, I can’t think of anyway for her to get fire strike and it make sense.

Roadhog: Echo could gain a hard light lasso or claw to grab people with a shorter range, and for his heal make her spread it around to the team in a small area healing them and herself but for about 50-70 HP.

D.va: Echo should be able to boost around for half the time as D.va just enough to get places but not enough to really go anywhere too far and give her a minor defense matrix that has a smaller cone. I can’t see her firing off a bunch of rockets.

Wrecking ball: I’d say give Echo the adaptive shield ability and a mix of piledriver and the grappling claw momentum where she instead of slamming the ground she speeds up for a very short burst and knocks everyone back a short distance.

Zarya: give Echo Zarya’s bubbles and instead of charging herself it acts as another way to charge Zarya

Orisa: Echo should get the shield but instead of it being placed down she can move with it still keeping it in that shape with less HP and give her the fortify ability but only the damage reduction from it.

I could go on to give out all the DPS abilities and support skills but we were asked as a community so I’d like to leave all those open to everyone else and if you can think of anything better for the tanks I’d love to see the ideas flow.

I think she’d work fine with a selection screen similar to the command wheel. One ability slot that opens up the wheel and you click the role you want.
Either that or like Moira’s orbs. The role you are never pops up so there’s only two options

I think all three roles is way too much for one character and practically impossible to keep balanced. I say make her support and make the ultimates all three.

Here’s a design for that I made:

So first impression about Echo she look’s 100% support BUT… I’d love the idea that ECHO could be a DMG Hero…

But then again looking at our class’s i think a new Tank Hero wouldn’t be that bad though…
So dear #Blizzard i am looking forward to your new surprise Class regarding this wonderful and beautiful Hero <3

Shield based Support. That’s what she should be.

Jeff said he knows what she os already but I am guessing shield support :relieved:
