As OWL dps player he should be glad about rolelock. Many of them were forced to play Brig or Zarya, or chill on the bench for months. Also, the situations in pro teams and ladder were different. In pro teams, players will actually play their strategy, they discuss it, they train it, everyone knows their role. Their job is winning, they’re paid employees, and they do their job. So yea, they may not like their pool of strategies reduced. In the ladder, your random teammates give no f about strategies, your random Ganjo instalock their hero and play it regardless of circumstances. My team needs a tank? Well pick it someone, I have a gold elims, I deserve the honor to play dps and I also need healing.
I’m waiting for open queue to become an official competitive mode next to role queue before I reinstall
O well if an OW pro says it it must be true.
In Sinatraa’s case, his strengths are Zarya and Doom and while he’s still good at other heroes, the other DPS players on his team are overall better at those other heroes and more flexible. GOATs being killed actually meant being benched for him, especially with hero bans requiring extreme flexibility.
I thought he’s a dps player, my bad. But anyway, even if goats demise means benching for some players, more make a return. Also goats heroes are moslty good in other metas. Like, Rein always sees play when not banned, alongside with Zarya or D.va. Lucio is quite popular. Brig is… kinda ok. Only Zen players have to move to other heroes almost completely.
as I see I don’t have to make a new topic… I told you before… 222 mostly hated by pros and high elo players… Blizzard should really stop listening to players below diamond or master idk… but please if you they wanna listen at least don’t kill the game for pros… without esport the game gonna be dead… there was LFG they could work on that or crybabies could use that… comp classic removal was the biggest mistake that they could do… they should add 222 separate to classic… maybe it’s too late already…
Watch the clip. He says “I think when 2-2-2 came out it definitely killed it for me.” Hes quoting the clip. Not the twitlonger he posted a few hours before his stream
My rule of thumb is that the waiting time should not be longer than the duration of half the match itself.
Fighting games usually end after around a minute and half from 2~3 rounds, so 30-45 seconds of queue is the limit where it starts being annoying.
Competitive Overwatch matches average 12 minutes. Quick Play around 5 minutes (Assault stomps push the average down in QP, with no second round). So, for us a 3 minutes queue for QP or 6 minutes queue for Comp are already asking the playerbase to be too patient.
While You Wait helps masking the time, especially if you get into a match while you are intensely focused on something happening in the waiting match, like a deathmatch duel or rapid-respawn workshop modes. But the moment the player notice that the wait timer is turning into double digits, the frustration of waiting hits with the same force.
Back when role queue was just an idea thrown around the forums, I’ve always said that queue times would be the big issue for role queue, on top of all the other personal reasons why I don’t like mandatory 2-2-2 as a concept for the casual playerbase. But at the time I had faith Blizzard would not consider pushing role queue into live until they find a way to solve the queue time issues.
Boy, I was wrong. I guess the pressure from the esport department was too strong to hold.
Linking back to youtube or any blizzard sub-links (threads, other forums, game pages, etc) is allowed for any user. I think Twitch is allowed too, but I’m not 100% sure on this one.
My favorite thing from the devs was when they were teasing “Find a group” and “role queue” people began to think they meant hero bans. Then the devs came out and said that they don’t have plans for hero bans and do not want to bring the game in that direction. They said this multiple times. And then when they say they will start bans, that bans will be different every week and not repetitive. I’m shocked I’m not seeing more mcree and widowmaker players furious about this as the bans only went live like 6 weeks ago and 3 of the weeks had mcree and widow banned
Oh no, you had it right. He is/was a DPS player (going into OWL mostly known for Tracer, but well, Shock also has Striker now who is even better at her) , he just always also had a killer Zarya in his pocket and then with GOATs ended up being truly top-tier with her.
But yeah, as a whole 2/2/2 was good for the DPS players, just not someone like Sinatraa.
I am like 95% sure the problem was not in esports. Like, it’s easy to make pro players not to play stuff: just nerf the stuff. The problem was in common folks who dont wanna play tanks and healers. Even when goats was on peak performance, dudes in ranked and QP were instalocking a dps. While OWL were playng 3 tanks, a random gold players were glad if they had one. So if devs would nerf tanks heavily, the random ladder dudes will pick them even less (and cry about their team not picking one even more). So they shot two birds with one stone. The result is overall better matches (imo) but terrible q times. For pro scene I think it’s mostly better cuz at least dps players got back to action.
I’m at the exact opposite spot. Because, as I say in many other threads, I don’t think forced 222 is a bad idea for OWL specifically. My main issue is with it being shoved into the casual player base.
Now that you can unlock achievements in QPC, I’m a lot less vocal in the forums about this issue. But I entirely believe the change was rushed by the esports departments, and added to the main game to “make us play the same game as the pros”.
Heck, in the 222 presentation video they specifically said they asked the teams if they wanted role restrictions for stage 4 or pushed into the 2020 season. Which means they had the option to hold role queue for half a year more to iron stuff out.
I believe the teams having a voice in the matter was like a tiebreak vote, but that one is total tinfoil hat territory.
Never use subjective opinions (and the trash survey data they produce) to argue what sound math and structured model logic can accomplish objectively.
It was a no-brainer from the beginning to show how queue times would skyrocket, fun would plumit, and people would jsut give up, spend less money, and meme the entire company.
A lesson for the dev team, some of whom should be laid off and take the fall for this.
Oh okay you’re right sorry about that… I only read the Tweet before that so yeah…
And maybe he’s been playing this game for years for 6-12+ hours a day with forced scrims and he’s tired of it. Doesn’t help that the new game content and balancing has been slow to release.
I probably would be sick of it too.
Oh we’re bloody furious and there are at least half a dozen threads I’m subbed to over it.
And yet every time there’s a forum poll about it, the vast majority are always in favour of 2-2-2.
Cherry-picking the opinion of ONE pro player is entirely irrelevant in comparison.
if you pay attention and listen properly is not 2/2/2 is the Q times
I don’t know of any valid data that supports the claim of a majority
And yet every time there’s a forum poll about it, the vast majority are always in favour of 2-2-2.
That doesn’t mean that everyone has to just shut up and fall in line. Those of us who don’t like it walked away. Your straw polls will reflect that.
We had 3 weeks of OQ and I can see a lot of people are back for that.
Its obviously very divisive. And it’s obvious there’s not an insignificant minority who want to play the game that way.
The answer is just to keep OQ alongside RQ for the live game.
The answer for OWL? I have no idea. He’s not the only player who’s not happy, and quite a few have quit already. You lose good players, you lose the integrity of the competition.
