Simultaneous Mouse + Controller Input Causing Lag

The way that Overwatch 2 handles its on-screen control prompts seems to create lag when using a mouse and controller simultaneously. This is an issue for players like myself who use controllers with gyro aiming that emulates a mouse.

The game automatically switches the on-screen control prompts from controller prompts to keyboard prompts when mouse input is detected, causing distracting flickering between controller prompts and keyboard ones, and it also causes severe performance issues, so severely that I’ve deemed gyro aiming not viable on Overwatch.

A solution to this issue could either be to allow the player to force which prompts they would like through an option in the menus, or change the behavior such that the game only automatically changes prompts if a KEYBOARD input is detected, not mouse input. That way, players like myself who use mouse gyro wouldn’t have their inputs flashing on screen constantly.

Even if this isn’t the source of the performance issue (although I couldn’t imagine it being anything else), I think changing the behavior to how I outlined above would be a great improvement to gameplay for gyro users like myself, so that the prompts wouldn’t flicker back and forth and be unreadable.

Thank you very much for reading.

Under accessibility in the options there’s an option called “UI Button Prompt Display” That’s what you’re looking for! I was having the same problem and set the prompt to Controller and now it doesn’t flicker and it still reads my mouse input for gyro!
