The versatility of his barrier in combination with Orisa’s or Reinhardt’s is what brought about double barrier. Think about it, Orisa and Rein together was hardly ever ran, because their barriers and playstyles just didn’t pair greatly together.
But Sigma became the in-between that pairs with both, and as such, double barrier became a thing, which is why HE is the mainstay in EVERY double barrier comp, while every single other hero that is touted as the “cause” of Double Barrier gets cycled out repeatedly.
So stop saying Bap is the cause. Stop saying Brig is. Stop blaming Anas, Reins, Orisas, etc and calling for their heads.
It was SIGMA’s addition to the roster that brought about the strategy.
Now, i’m not saying Sigma is inherently overpowered or deserves to be gutted, (in fact i don’t even think he’s much of a problem myself), but if blame is to be thrown around about why Double Shield exists, throw it at the true culprit and stop witch hunting support or other tanks mains just because Sigma is picked as the second tank.

I don’t personally believe Sigma is OP but regardless his addition was the source of double barrier so stop blaming other heroes.

I think Sigma’s shield is a problem and he does too much… do you think it’d be a good idea if they removed his shield but beefed his health up? Or some similar idea that helps him mitigate damage without a shield?

Sigma was also the main reason for the global barrier nerfs. So, Rein mains, you can blame Sigma for your barrier being paper.

Personally i’d like to see it nerfed to around 400 - 500 health but have it’s regen increased dramatically and it’s cooldown on recast removed, and a new ability on Reload key to surround an enemy with his barrier when it’s not up to block all incoming and outgoing damage and healing from or towards that specific enemy in reference to the “containment field” that failed in his origin video. Would make him a lot more versatile but simultaneously solidify him as a non main shield tank.
Would remove double barrier being so dominant but keep Sigma viable.

Oh, I DO. Sigma has caused unnecessary nerfs to Orisa, Rein, Mei, Brig, Moira, and several others to stop Double Shields. AND IT’S STILL HAPPENING.

Personally, think they just need to remove the barrier, bump up his health, and toy with Grasp to make it his primary defensive ability. Really make him a proper off-tank.
As long as the barrier exists, there’s always going to be a risk of double barrier coming back, regardless of how weak it is. It’s too damn flexable and the rest of his kit offers too much to keep it this way.

I don’t really think they’d be identical, one is far more mobile while the other has better range and AOE damage, and the ult’s aren’t really the same.
Making him more comparable to OTHER OFF TANKS does make sense, though.

This newest surge in double shield is caused by brig and bap. That is the conclusion of the pro scene, and therefore blizzard’s concern.
True or not, that explains blizzard’s reaction.
sigma is a part of the problem but I don’t think he is the sole issue. certain support heroes make 2x shield insanely powerful while offering significantly less value to other compositions.

Why do so many people want to tiptoe around this character being an issue? That’s what I really don’t get.

I don’t know how you interpret me saying that there is more than one reason for a problem as me defending sigma at all. I have zero incentive to defend sigma; I also don’t need to see him as the singular problem.

The problem with Sigma is his kit is too heavily loaded. He has:
- A powerful barrier
- a better Defense Matrix
- A stun
- Strong splash damage as primary fire
- An ult that does massive damage with easy targeting.
- Oh and he can self heal with shields (both temporary and permanent)
It’s like Rein and DVA had a baby.
