I was advised to leave feedback here for the new Tank hero Sigma. He feels very unsettling to play for someone like myself who suffers from a mental illness. The constant anguish and frustration in his voice interactions are triggering and can bring on some symptoms that are present in my illness.
This poster on Reddit sums up my un-easy feelings better than I can.
" I have paranoid schizophrenia similar to what I believe is intended with the new hero Sigma. My thoughts on the character and his backstory aside, I think his kit is cool and I really want to try it out at some point. Somewhat ironically I canāt play him in his current state as Blizzard has added a lot of disjointed background noise to his abilities and ultimate, which triggers some pretty substantial panic attacks/delusions for me. I was recommended on a different forum to listen to the voice lines a bunch of times to acclimate myself to them but it hasnāt worked so far.
I am really hoping that Blizzard could add some sort of toggle for the background noise, as I donāt think they intended with the design to exclude anyone, especially people who suffer from the same or similar diseases as the character, from playing the him. I havenāt been able to find a clear sound clip from the ultimate voice line when he plays on the other team (or when a different person on your team is playing him) but if thereās a similar effect when he ults I donāt think Iāll be able to play at all when he comes out. "
I like the concept of Sigma in general , however I wasnāt prepared for the triggering effects.
There will always be something that someone will suffer from.
Unless a lot of people are complaining about the same thing, it is very unlikely something to be changed.
The post is asking for a toggle for Sigmaās background noises because theyāre potentially triggering for people with mental illness. Read the post before you respond about something entirely different.
I swear thereās voices when he uses his abilities, so I think it might be that.
As far as Iām aware, thereās been no other thread made about the potentially triggering effects of the background noise when playing Sigma, so OPās post is entirely justified.
Iāll support this guy just because the random voice lines are annoying and block out the sound of enemy foot steps and abilities, the game has way too much audio clutter as it is.
huh⦠so kinda like epilepsy but auditory⦠first of all iām sorry that youāre going through this and if anyone from blizzard reads this theyāll fix it for ya
so letās upvote it so it gets more attention
I like the noises as it add some creepynes to the surprising tame in-game character however if it does trigger people then I guess Blizzard could make it a thing you could turn off
The thought of someone snapping and being manipulated to anotherās end disturbs me greatly⦠and I love it! Seriously, if we worried about every plot device, trait, or character, ātriggeringā someone, the world of writing would be incredibly boring.
This was literally copied from Reddit even the āI was advised to post hereā. I would have taken this more serious if you would have attempted to put things in your own words but everything is near verbatim.
Also adjusting a few items in sound will solve this issue. Itās like me saying bc I was in the military Soldier 76 gives me PTSD. My options would be to not play, turn things down, or seek more help with my issues bc if something is triggering me itās not the game itās something going on in my own head.
Past few years everyone is offended by everything even if it has a solution. My son has mental health issues and Sigma is his favorite. I would never try to tell a company to change a character that has mental issues bc it triggers my son, he would just not play and like you said I would have to get him more help if a video game was setting him off anyway.
Iām wondering how a person who plays a first person shooter game full of death and bombs and destruction isnāt being triggered by any of those things, but sigma voiceline of all things is triggering.
