Sigma should be able to absorb beams as well

So Sigma has been receiving nothing but nerfs in his lifetime. His barrier HP was reduced, his primary fire range was reduced, and he can even be CCed out of his ultimate’s falling damage now. I feel like his kinetic grasp should be able to absorb beam weapons as well, because one of the most famous attributes of a black hole is that its gravity is so strong even light cannot escape. This would make his ability a little more useful while also making more sense.

I mean from a reality perspective, yes that is exactly what a black hole would do, it would warp and swallow it whole.

From a gaming perspective, it would be a bit OP. Example, Genji can deflect Symmetra’s beam. It’s possible, but in game perspective it’s OP because there would be no counter to them

Well right now there’s little counter to beams as even if you put a shield in front of them they are in fact very good at decimating those, so they provide their value either way.

Actually, this is a good example as to why he wouldn’t be able to deflect lasers.

Genji is literally slapping the projectiles back at the enemy, but to reflect a laser, he’d need to hold the sword straight like a mirror. He’s not doing this in his animations, therefore he’s not reflecting the laser.

Simple.

It’s basically a worse Defense Matrix, so it functions like DM.

Well, the range nerf didnt happen, and he did recently get some small buffs. But I agree he needs more, especially with how much stronger Rein is, with how many counters Sig has, and with how little synergy he has with tanks other than Orisa.

Since Echo has very high flight speed on a normal basis I think it’s fair now to ask for Sigma’s ult flying speed to be additionally buffed, at least by removing the lag at the beginning.

Absorbing beams would still leave Sigma useless against Rein who is already one of his biggest counter. Technically a black hole would absorb Rein’s hammer too, but in-game I’d prefer instead if Kinetic Grasp just gave Sigma some small amount of instant barrier hp in addition to the abosorbed proectile conversion, and then the conversion rate could instead be lowered a bit.

Well if we’re being realistic, lasers are easy to deflect.

He received nothing but nerfs because he launched as the most broken new character to ever launch in this game.

Broken as in overpowered, not broken as in a bug riddled mess.

As a D.Va main, as much as I would like throttle whoever put uncounterable death-rays in Overwatch, Zarya would be pretty much useless without hers. She’s the squishiest tank, and can only really make space by swinging her giant laser around.

Plus, the ideal way to counter beams is to have your harder-to-wave-a-beam-at teammates kill the beamer for you, so without a mic my prerogative as D.Va is basically “kill everyone except Symmetra, and wait/hope for Symmetra to die.” Most of the time, it actually works.

I’ll say he doesn’t need this, cuz dm-like things doesn’t absorb them in the first place and imo it’s one of the last usides beam weapons have left.

What sigma needs is a hyperflexible short-duration grasp. At most .75s duration but also very short cd.

And he still has some of those bugs…

Just like Ashe still has her hit reg issues and Sigma can still get healing somehow.

The area her DM covers is at least 3 times larger than that kinetic grasp covers, and she basically can’t be stunned out of it. She also gets it back every 2 seconds, as opposed to sigma’s 10.
