Sigma Is Most Slept On Tank In The Game

On my gamepad on PC challenge (currently low plat) I’ve noticed the only tanks people are running now on this platform are Hog, Doom, and sometimes Winston.

The DPS are almost 100% of the time poke heroes. Sojourn, Ashe, Soldier, Widow, Hanzo, etc

And then Kiriko everytime who is also played mostly as poke.

The Hog players have an abysmal sense of creating space and stand in one place around a corner waiting for their hook to come up giving their team no opportunity to push in.

Ok, so why not play Sigma? Wouldn’t that make a thousand times more sense?

I think Sigma (or Dva, but I’ll mention that in a moment) is the pick in this meta I believe. He synergizes well with the poke DPS and protects them all against all the one shots. If Hog moves in he has the rock and can kite him around not really letting him do anything.

Now I understand Doom is a thing. Sigma has the rock so he’s not helpless here. The thing is from my experience if Doom is going in chances are the rest of the team isn’t diving with him. He’s probably going to be in there by himself getting focused from my personal experience.

Sometimes the enemy does dive with the Doom or Winston and that’s where Dva comes in. I wouldn’t run Dva in this meta to try to pounce on people offensively, but to peel and counter dive. Obviously Dva craps on Winston, but she’s also a nice Doom counter imo.

Point is, when Sigma doesn’t work Dva is a nice backup.

At the very least can some of these Hog one tricks reading this take my advice and maybe try another tank?

If you are scared to move and create space and just wanna poke for a hook combo can you poke with Sigma instead who will do a better and more consistent job of that?

If you are bad on Sigma, but a decent Sigma is going to poke in and out behind cover.

He gonna juggle poke with his orbs where when his orbs are waiting to reload in his hand he won’t be there to get hit and he’ll peek you just long enough to sling the orbs.

His absorb he’s gonna use when the enemy is off cooldown.

His ult he’s gonna expose just long enough to set it and then float around a corner.

At least if you are halfway decent that’s how you want it to go down.

I guess GM players are not very good then…

Either way you can’t always afford a perfect scenario, and again in most cases his ult and abilities are countered by stuns. Doom and Hog both have stuns in their kits

Sigma is good but he is a “try to do all” tank.
If you are able to be that versatile and cover for your team style and weaknesses, he is great. If your team just doesn’t follow you and treat you like a meat shield, there are better tanks, like Orisa.

If he had less CD on absorption and a bit less HP on the Shield, he would be closer to what he should be. When you enable a Sigma, he is not as dangerous as Orisa, Hog, Winston, Dva or even JQ. His M1 is great for poke, yes … but its bad for pretty much anything else really.

He’s been overshadowed by other tanks for a long while the only place he’s really played is on long sightline maps like circuit royale or junker town.

I tried it yesterday. He’s very easy to stay alive with. I was having games where I only died once or twice the entire game.

The problem is that he does not have the presence to control space.

He’s good on long sightline maps but not on king of the hill or push.

It appears that Doom and Hog will doninate this meta, but on at least a few maps Sigma is going to be really stong.

Take Rialto for instance. You need a map where Sigma can set up his shield to deny a LOS and set up your hitscan or sniper or whatever to cover for his LOS. Sigma can then stand there in front of the cart kiting backwards with damage. He can do this because he already moved way forward in front of the cart leaving space for the cart to catch up with him.

But when it’s a king of the hill map where you gotta control point he just cannot hold the point and rotate from one poke position to another. It’s too enclosed and they will chase him down.
