Shroud: "The only complaint is smurfs"

Shroud is playing overwatch right now. Someone asked him in voice “do you like overwatch?” he replied “it’s fine, the only complaint is smurfs, it’s really bad” the person that asked replies “yeah it’s really bad, it’s like every other game”.

Keep in mind shroud is platinum, and shroud had this discussion with plats.

This just shows how bad the smurf problem is in OW, and it’s in every single rank, not just plat, from bronze to masters. But it’s particularly sad that the beginner ranks like plat are smurf ridden, new players that just get their fun destroyed.

Something needs to be done.

I’m not saying smurfs aren’t a problem, but Shroud is playing on stream and getting stream sniped so… yeah… his experience is not exactly representative.

Just asking since Is a supposition and I don’t like the smurfs aswell.

Isn’t the role que, that give you a rank for each single role fixing this problem a bit? At least for ranks where there is a decay?

Since you have to play for each role to keep your sr?

I’m very sure that Shroud would reach top 500 given a few months to learn the game sense and matchups.

The reason he’s losing to smurfs is that he literally doesn’t understand what’s happening in the game. Heck, he doesn’t even know half of the roster’s names.

I saw his placement game playing as Tracer on Gibraltar, and he kept getting hacked by a Sombra who focused him but he simply didn’t know any better. He just said: “My abilities don’t work and I don’t know why”.

Im in plat and i dont see that much smurfs…

Everyone at lev 25 that know that as Genji you have to dash in the sky to have vision of the battlefield is a smurf.

Everyone at lev 25 that as Soldier know that he have to be almost all the times on the highground is a smurf.

Everyone at lev 25 wipe an enemy team as Widow is a smurf (or he/she come from csgo from what most of them say XD ).

Just few examples.

to be fair, with how good shroud is at games and his aim. i’ll count him as a smurf tbh. on ladder where u can easily carry with dps, he should be rolling in all honesty.

As someone with hero-specific accounts in plat and mains in high Masters, plat is harder than diamond.

Plat, by far, has the most smurfs of any rank in the entire game.

I have to play my main heroes and outsmurf other smurfs or just learn to deal with it and git gud on my weaker heroes. I feel bad for people really in plat.

Only complain sure, man also got so mad and call baptiste frisbee broken af. As for smurf prob, why play rank if you think you cant beat those people high ranked than you.

so dont play for fun to not get your fun destroyed, 1-st rank up, then go smurf by yourself to have fun. If there is so much smurfs, it might me a key to fun?

There will be no decay. It fixes nothing. It just gives people extra smurfs on their smurfs.

I haven’t met someone who was obviously and undeniably smurfing for at least 100 games.

I honestly think that people simply lose it as soon as someone with a bronze or silver border lands a few lucky shots :joy:

Also Shroud doesn’t seem to know whats really going on in Overwatch.
How is he supposed to know if someone is smurfing?

Honestly I understand there are people who exaggerate things to make a point, there are people who are not willing to put in time to practice then blame it on smurfs when in fact their lack of improvement is why they are not climbing.
HOWEVER, if Shroud, a professional who has played basically most of the popular FPS games out there in the past decade, think smurf is a problem in Overwatch. Are you guys willing to accept maybe, just maybe, it’s actually true what people have been saying. The point people have been making is that in PLAT and below smurfs are pretty common, and most people who oppose are not even in those ranks. I climbed from plat to mid diamond like 7 or 8 seasons ago and I’ve consistently been in diamond ever since. Based on my personal experience, there are much less smurfs in diamond games than in plat or below.
