Shows how immature the community is

The uproar, at least in my case, isn’t because he’s gay. It’s because of the way they handled it. There were a bunch of forum posts made wanting a gay character. It feels like to me they just looked at the roster and picked one to be gay. It felt incredibly forced and out of nowhere.

If they had made a new character that just happened to be gay, that would probably be a lot more welcomed. Because not only is it adding something new to the game but it’s also giving the LGBT community what they wanted.

Also a thing to note that the mass majority of people who were complaining about there being a lack of gay representation were also American. And they made the american character gay. I imagine that if they hadn’t recently given McCree a lot of highlight recently, they would have probably picked him to be gay instead. But Soldier was the next best option.

Obvious pandering is obvious.
There was no need bring up solders sexually at all, but it’s a group a of people who want a gay hero so bam, solders gay now.

Thanks a lot lgbq community.

Yeah I’m not about to argue that or white knight Blizzard. Is what it is. It’s just an assumed background operation as far as I’m concerned. Not much attention to be given to it.

Most definitely. The conviction and commitment they have in their campaigns is always suspect. Many examples to draw from. Again… Just how corporations operate. Nothing I can do about that, and no reason to care.

Exactly.

For sure. And I mean, if we’re going to say we care about lore, we have to recognize the state of lore as well. It’s not like it’s well established, or that anything lore wise has been contradicted. Regardless of personal feelings, it makes sense and slots in fine. Had it contradicted previous lore/story telling, then yeah I’d be all ranana and stuff about it. But it didn’t.

How they went about it was pretty decent imho. I didn’t think “omfg forced” when I heard the news. I thought “sure, makes sense.” But clearly the reasons as to why I had that reaction, compared to other people’s reactions, comes down to our life experiences and just overall perspective differences when it comes to the world around us.

 I’m glad you enjoyed! xD

Where’d you get this rule from? And who is it that determines irrelevancy or purpose? I remember reading lord of rings way back when. That Bilbo party went on forever. Unnecessary? Bad writing?

I think that’s arguable.

That seems presumptuous.

He wasn’t thrown into the spot light and rubbed into your face, yeah. Isn’t that a good thing?

And you had similar stuff popping up when that happened all over the forums. You think they reeled it in well. You think they made it fit. Other people don’t. What you leveled toward Vincent could be said for Emily too in a lot of ways.

It’s a key point in his personal journey. It is something that will affect the way he interacts, interprets, and deals with all other things in his life. That, imho, is quite significant. Even if there is no future to be found there.

I’d understand. And I’d still say you are wrong. Your argument is beside the point, this biological and psychological reasoning behind homosexuality and how you feel about it is… Beside the point. There’s no need for me to go through this with you.

Your reasoning was poor.

I can bring up a lot of games. Doesn’t change the fact.

I don’t. You just make poor arguments.

Previous hints towards it, that only made sense in hindsight, and the fact that lore in this game is underdeveloped, not even remotely fleshed out, and that it’s progress at a snails pace. I mean… I had no reason to be surprised by Soldier being gay. At all.

Why were you surprised?

Although you are right in that there isn’t a rule, I would just like to mention creative=/= good.
I have read countless books with chapters upon chapter choc full of gobbledy-goook.

Ironically I can say that as a published author, this is woefully easy to do. It’s something I have to consciously stop myself from doing.

What hints? There were NONE. The closest anyone has given was the group photo of the original OW gang, and even that is abysmal AT BEST as it was never implied at all that he was into ANYONE, let alone gay.

0 arguments…ok. There’s no need for me to go through this with you.

By the complaint that they just pandered to the forum requests, we should be expecting a female, black character next, right? I’m as straight as they come, you can check my hub history, but another post put it best, There is no great way to say a character is LGBTQ.

Okay. And was there any reason to assume he wasn’t gay? Any hints that suggested that?

No?

So I guess it goes both ways. Goes back to what I said about not assuming.

Many arguments. I gain nothing from turning this into a lecture though.

Cool thing is, facts don’t care about your feelings. If it’s a poor argument then argue it.
Not only is my argument sound, you telegraph it by not being able to counter it.
But (for the sake of argument) are you saying that “get woke, go broke” is wrong?
I can provide statistical data. (especially with sales)

  1. Please, oh please, tell me how alienating your primary demographic is a good thing. (aspect of argument)
  2. Show me how implementing a topical/political idea/alienating more people, is a good idea. (as if the diversity quota wasn’t met before)

Dude, that is beyond stupid. “Dont assume”, you say, when that is the point of a ****** story is to make you speculate and assume.

And it’s okay to assume something that wasnt EVER expected to be brought up wont be brought up. Hell, it wont even be a thought.

EDIT: Might I add that this would be a lot less of an issue if the OW team didnt drop information as slow as they do.

I don’t understand how revealing Soldier 76 as gay equates to “alienating your primary demographic.” That sounds like some weak minded stuff tbh. I, and Blizzard, can’t be held accountable for your fragility when it comes to the topic of sexuality.

There are many who are indifferent, enjoy, or even celebrate such a development. That is a good thing imho. If people are leaving this game because Soldier 76 was revealed as gay… Also a good thing imo. Those people don’t strike me as the type to be worth wasting time on.

What if I told you I expected it?

There is no limit to assumption. If you and me read the same book, unbounded and just full of assumption, we’d probably come to wildly different conclusions.'s why we ground ourselves through the reference material. Otherwise, there’s no end to the rabbit hole.

Simple concepts tbh.

Don’t debate with him, he think he knows everything. It’s like 1+1=2, and Quest says it’s 5 lol

I’m sorry you don’t get it. Ambiguity isn’t a bad thing. Like in my previous post that you couldn’t read, I established that the player can fill in those gaps and often does in film/lit/games.

You haven’t made 1 solid argument. You’re just soapboxing and attempting to swat at other’s comments without making points.

I don’t see how I’m saying it’s 5 friend.

It just seems me and you have different definitions of 2.

And that player, by filling in those gaps, somehow makes their gap filler as canon? Nah dude, not how it works.

What you’re talking about is more fanfiction.

Wheres the room for that assumption? We can start assuming, at this rate, that Zenyatta is secretly a serial killer who hates cats and eats soap every 2nd of the month.

You cant say that’s stupid because you’re assuming now, even though I have nothing to back up those assumptions

I’m not assuming. I had 0 assumptions about Soldiers sexuality. It was revealed he was gay. I accepted it.

Where did I assume there? Now compare that to the train of thought you’ve been going through… Which one has more assumptions involved?

So you’re telling me that stories like Frankenstein, Dracula, Swiss Family Robinson, Tom Sawyer, The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, 1984, Kite Runner, and so many others weren’t good. I guarantee you that every great fiction story has mention of some useless information that didn’t become a plot point in the future. Vincent’s purpose was to flesh out 76’s character a bit more that’s all.
(P.S. calm down there Brian from FG, I also published a book, doesn’t mean it was good. My credentials were given to show that I read and know the rules of writing.)

  1. “Weak minded stuff”. If your primary demographic are straight white males, eliminating straight white males isn’t a good business move". I eagerly await your reaction, “why is it a bad business move”.
  2. Good. It has nothing to do with those people. This also has nothing to do with your virtue signaling.
With that being said, there is a huge discrepancy with the data. 3%-5% of the population is making up a considerable amount (more than 3-5) of time in modern media. This is especially true since the agenda has shifted from humanitarian to political.

I cannot continue to enlighten you. You don’t seem very mature or capable of deductive reasoning.
You’ve made numerous non-sequiturs and now virtue signaling. No thanks.

I accept that he’s gay, guy, what I dont accept is the crap writing that went into this.

I’m done arguing this with you.
